Say what you want, you can't deny USA really knows how to build a ship.
It will be sometime before the Russians or the Chinese can come even close to creating a master piece like this.
No countries on earth spend as much money as the USA in the military,any countries who would invest like that into a ship would come up with something similar or better...
samymasta It is not simply money, I do not think you understand the engineering and industrial complex that is required to build one of these. There is only one shipyard in the US that can build one. So no, not just any country can build one, just because they have the money.

samymasta Really? Let's see, During the cold war the USSR spent just as much on military spending, and never came close to perfecting the carrier. China just bought an old carrier from Russia, because they do not have the expertise to build there own, as a matter of fact all they do is buy a few pieces of hardware from other countries and then copy it, because they do not have the ability to design there own, and they certainly have the money to buy all the engineers they want. The US has been perfecting the design of the supper carrier since WWII, it is not something you can just buy. You did not butthurt my American pride, because your uneducated comments are just laughable. Think before you speak. Does my pride in my country bother you?

He was foremost a man of great integrity as evidenced by his sterling leadership of America during her darkest hours. So although his time in office was short lived, Gerald Ford helped to restore the faith of Americans back in 1974.

If you go to a video of the liaoning, you find all these comments complimenting china for their achivements and what not. Then you watch a video like this scroll down and find these kids, who think the world is unicorns and ponies, criticizing the US for making these ships. Like the US is not supposed to defend its country and allies.
While I agree with you on your general premise that the US is capable and can and does build these incredible technological wonders and it has every right to do so, but we have been stigmatized by our governments actions and particularly by the last Bush administration and the war on Iraq. That was a colossal blunder of gargantuan proportions and has unfortunately set us back in the eyes of the world. We went from trying to find WMD's to suddenly Operation Iraqi Freedom where we basically enforced our will on a country and a people and told them this is how they should govern themselves. Then we have the audacity to tell people that we're doing this to protect our freedom. I'm yet trying to find the ever so elusive connection. All that has done is decrease our likeability around the world and it has actually created more enemies. So it's understandable to see those types of comments on almost every single YT video that shows some US military might and unfortunately it's not only relegated to military might, but almost every single aspect of American culture. We've gotten used to being overbearing and policing the world while screaming "we're doing it for our freedom" and if that doesn't work try "well who else is gonna do it" and unfortunately that position was never given to us and it doesn't sit well with just about everybody else. Other than that, all the power to us.

Wow, that time lapse of the construction process is interesting. I lived onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in that same shipyard, for several months as the ship was being finished in early 1987, back in drydock following the ship's commissioning and shakedown cruise. We enjoyed watching construction of the USS Abraham Lincoln, which was under construction in the same shipyard. I don't recall seeing any huge chunks of bulkhead being set in place like that. Fascinating!
The other thing I found fascinating was being able to walk underneath such a freakishly huge ship when we were in the drydock during that time. What an experience, as a teenager seeing the world outside Wyoming for the first time, from the deck of such a ship. I wouldn't trade that experience!
I had pretty much the same experience. I pre-commed the GW, and watched the Stennis being built. A LONG way from South Dakota.

I know it would never happen... but I would love to see a sort of "Legacy Cruise" if you will. The Enterprise, the Nimitz, and the Ford along with other lead ships like the Iowa, the Ticonderoga, the Arleigh Burke, and the Zumwalt, all in a battlegroup formation, all sailing together. Please don't tell me that there is no chance of this happening, because I know that, this is just something I would want to see before I die.
I know that this comment was from 8 years ago, but even now that would be absolutely glorious to see. It would be a message to the entire world that the US still has the ability to put up a fight.

Get a clue. The problems today are not the result of the USA. It is the result of the collapse of the European empires. Countries were formed, and land divided up by treaties after WWII, that the native people had no say in. People that hate each other where forced to share land with other groups of people that can not get along. Hence the Arab spring. You need to do some research into the history of the world instead of just blaming the USA, which is the easy and lazy way to go

I think the building technique could've been done better (like the building technique of the RN QE Class, much larger blocks, then stapled together on a larger scale, much cleaner, much more reliable) One thing's for sure, it's a nice boat...a REALLY nice boat.

The price tag of a single Ford class does more then it appears to help the economy. Keep in mind this is a 100,000 ton plus super carrier so it requires that amount of steel, tons of modern electronics, the nuclear reactor as well as the aviation wing so in addition to the generation of 10-15 thousand shipbuilding jobs per a single carrier your going to get dozens of industries across the nation getting work that would otherwise be unavailable if the money went to oh say the homeless which by the way cost's the nation far more then a single Ford class carrier. (food stamps alone cost tax payers $80 Billion a year)
