I was down at the California Oregon coast region and saw a dock full of male and female sea lions lounging about 50 feet away. I took some pictures from that far but this stupid german lady tourist wanted to go up and pet one or something. These animals are territorial and you just don't walk up and get in their face. We left before the 2000 pound males might have taken a bite out of her stupid ass, but SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO COMMON SENSE. These people feed the damn sea lion then set three inches away from it. Who the hell knows what its eyesight is like and how well it can see.

Since I didn't see anyone mention this at the top of the comments, this happened because people feed the wildlife. If you meet people who think it's no big deal to feed them, show them this video since this is the kind of confusion the animals can get into as a result. These sea lions are used to waiting around to get fed off-cut pieces of fish dangled from there by tourists. Glad she is okay, but really anyone who has fed them there in the past can take some of the blame.
I showed this to my husband and it made him cry, he says the guy who acted so quick is a good guy. ( we have 4 daughters and couldn’t imagine this ever happening) I bet that little girl will hate sea lions for the rest of her life now though.
When pulling someone up to a ledge, don't pull on their arm/hands. Pull on their armpit or torso or belt or whatever because they need their arms to help lift themselves up.
