A very simple example, if you want to borrow money to buy a house, the bank will evaluate your credit value and your personal asset value. If your credit and assets are only 10,000 US dollars, but you want 100 million US dollars, do you think the bank will give you?
In the final analysis, this is a problem between China and the loaning country. What does it have to do with you? What does it have to do with your country? Is it possible that the lender country cannot repay China's debts, and you and your country will help repay? Or does it mean that you and your country will shamelessly force China to cancel the debt of the loan country?
You are not a participant, please do not blame others, it will only make you look stupid.

The US has A LOT of issues, but at least they are free to choose their government and way of life. China is increasingly turning into a police state. Make no mistake, these "donations" are donations not to the companies they're building them in, but donations to their friends in the Communist Party, the means through which those gifts are laundered just happening to *maybe* actually benefit said countries' people. Taiwanese, can confirm this video pretty much hits the nail on its head. A couple things to add here:
    1. US-Taiwan relations are defined by the Taiwan Relations Act (which is the only separate legal act in the US that defines its relations with any foreign government), which basically outlines everything that countries with normal diplomatic relations do have but stops short of referring to Taiwan as an independent country. This is why when Taiwanese people fill out any official US documents (for example, when applying online for visa-exempt entry), when they select their nationality as Taiwan, a disclaimer will pop up saying that the name "Taiwan" is in the list of nationalities because of the Taiwan Relations Act.
    2. Our official name is still the Republic of China, because the constitution currently in effect here was written when the ROC government was still based in mainland China. Changing the name would necessitate a new constitution, but that would require a 3/4 majority in the legislature, which neither the pro-unification nor pro-independence parties individually have. Choosing to recognize the PRC or the ROC is actually not a silent rule per se, it also has to do with the fact that since the government on Taiwan is still called the Republic of China, and since (at least according to the constitution) the ROC is technically "China", when foreign countries cut ties with one to establish ties with the other, they are actually switching their recognition of "China" from the ROC to the PRC (or vice versa). This was highlighted when Panama cut ties; one of their ministers said that from their perspective they would prefer to have normal diplomatic relationships with both Taiwan and China, but because of the whole "exclusive recognition of China" issue, they can only choose one.
    3. News just in today: the government of Somaliland has officially announced that they will open a representative office in Taiwan, although whether or not that entails official diplomatic recognition and an exchange of ambassadors remains to be seen. Somaliland, of course, does not have official ties with any UN country. It turns out that our government has been silently offering aid for basic infrastructure there for quite some time now, and Somaliland's foreign minister has actually visited Taiwan before, but none of this had been made public here until today.

Personally I'd rather have our name be changed officially to Taiwan and forego any legitimacy claims to China-from the perspective of the US, the whole Taiwan Relations Act was to avoid the issue of which government is "China" (hence the title "Taiwan" Relations Act, instead of "Republic of China" Relations Act")

@k jason except you are completely wrong. the united states voted against General Assembly Resolution 2758 which gave the PRC its unsc seat. the us actually tried really hard to torpedo the resolution, but when it became clear that the prc has most of the world's support, the us, attempted to revise the resolution so that even if the PRC got the unsc seat taiwan would still be a member of the un. that of course also failed. then the vote came and the us voted against, however as this is a general assembly vote and not a unsc vote, the us does not get to use its veto and thus the prc became the china representative in the UN and taiwan/ROC was kicked. in addition, many western nations had already established diplomatic relations with the PRC prior to this vote, for example the UK had recognized the PRC for decades by this point, France had recognized the prc for about 7 years by 1971

@k jason I can't speak for "western countries". Also diplomacy isn't some two sided emotional affair. It's hardcore geopolitics. The PRC has lots of people and thus a huge market and at the time, a solid ally against the Soviet Union. There is no "love" just a hard calculation that recognizing the PRC will bring their own country benefits that is greater than the loss off diplomatic relations with the ROC. Plus nations like the us gets the best of both worlds, its treats Taiwan as a nation in all but name.

RR 123 it seems everyone has forgotten maus great leap, look it up my friend. Tiananmen square massacre? Forget that one too? You get arrested for speaking against the ccp, they have a 99.9% conviction rate so if you get arrested there will not be a trial, like at all. Stealing intellectual property for literally decades, just look up fake Chinese products. And if you think it’s innocent to steal iphones or car designs, sure i agree. The j25 stealth fighter jet is a carbon copy of the f 35 fighter. Not so innocent anymore when they start coping our weapons. Just recently they clashed with India and killed 20 Indian soldiers, the news didn’t cover it of course cause they are all bought and paid for by Chinese companies. Do you want me to continue? I can go for hours

@@nekolu America tried to do that, putting tariffs on chinese exports. Thing is, china just made most of the products taxed in china, exported them to a smaller country (that opposed china), finished the products and shipped them to america tariff-free. oldest trick in the book and I don't know why america even bothered.

The reason for the big flashy projects is simple. Fine a cheaper solution would work, but a cheaper less complex option is theoretically mantainable by the locals. Build something that big and oh kook suddenly china will gladly help eith upkeep since it put the thing there how inconsiderate of them to withhold maintaining this gift....
But if you suddenly start acting ungrateful, welp. Yur problem now.
