I forgot how funny Guvna and Barney are. And the rest of the crew are a great addition. Looking forward to seeing them on more videos. It's also nice to see a new dish being featured. The effort into making sure that the dish is as authentic as possible is insane. I can't begin to imagine how much it cost to source all the ingredients from south korea. I couldn't stop laughing at Josh forgetting the "Chili Mayo" sauce and those rappers just completely dragging him for it.
Maybe because of the name. You can see 청양(Cheongyang) in the Korean subtitle when they say chilli mayo. Cheongyang is a Korean region that is famous for chilli pepper. It is known for being spicier than chilli pepper from the other areas in Korea

냉면은 한국 전통의 음식입니다. 그것도 얼음을 동동 띄운 것이 그 매력이죠.
과거 음식물이 귀한 시절 구황작물인 감자와 메밀을 주 원료로 해서 만들어 먹은 데서 시작했으며 아주 오래 전부터 먹었지만 기록상 남아있기로는 조선 후기 문인인 홍석모(1787~1857)가 당대 조선 전국의 풍속을 정리하고 설명한 기록서인 동국세시기에 기록되어 있습니다. 또 조선 중엽인 17세기 초 인조 때 활동한 장유(1587~1638)의 문집인 계곡집(谿谷集)에서도 냉면이 등장하는 걸 보면 냉면의 역사는 최소 조선 중기 이후 내려오는 적어도 400년 이상의 긴 역사를 자랑하는 음식이라는 겁니다.
얼음을 만드는 냉장고가 20세기 초에 상용화되었는데 어떻게 400년 전에 얼음을 뛰운 냉면이 등장할 수 있냐는 물음에는
냉면 자체가 지금은 여름에 주로 먹지만 원래는 겨울에 먹는 겨울 음식이기 때문입니다. 우리 조상님들은 이열치열의 이치를 좋아했습니다. 여름엔 뜨거운 음식을.. 겨울엔 차가운 음식을 먹는 걸 선호했죠.
냉면은 하루 전 감자와 메밀을 이용해 면을 만들고 하루 전 만든 육수를 겨울철 얼음 생길 차가운 기온 속에 밖에 내다놔 자연의 얼음을 만듭니다. 그리고 하루 지나 꽁꽁 언 그릇을 녹여 육수가 나오면 면을 얹어 먹는 겨울철 별미라고 할 수 있습니다.
여름에 먹는 냉면은 시원함을 주지만 겨울에 먹는 냉면은 통쾌함을 주죠. 기온이 떨어져 꽁꽁 언 한겨울.. 눈을 맞으며 냉면을 먹다 보면 왜 우리 조상님들이 냉면이라는 얼음 띄운 차가운 면을 겨울에 고집하셨는지 그 이유를 알게 됩니다. 얼음이 녹아 육수가 되고 그 육수가 뱃 속에 들어가 피가 되는 과정에서 주는 통쾌함은 겨울이 아니면 느낄 수 없는 천생 별미죠.
어쩐지 겨울에 냉면이 그렇게 땡기더라니 .. 왜 냉면을 겨울에 먹냐는 물음에 이제 대답할수있겠네요

Not gonna lie, when I was in Korea a few years ago to visit my friend and she suggested we go eat cold noodles, I was veeery hesitant lmao. It just does not sound very appealing at all. But now, any time the weather is even slightly hot outside, I wish I could have some naengmyeon. It might have been my favourite dish I tried in Korea.

그게 바로 편견이죠 더운데 왜 면을 뜨겁게 먹을려고 하는지 이해가 안가네요 물론 한국에서도 뜨겁게 먹는 면도 많긴하지만 겨울철에 왜 시원하게 먹는다는걸 생각을 안하는건지?
반대로 외국은 전부 뜨겁지도 차갑지도 않은 미지근한 면이라 한국인 입장에선 다 별로임

영국 분들에게 난이도 있는 한국 음식 소개해주시는 컨텐츠도 잘 보고 있습니다만, 한국인들의 씽크빅한 면도 소개해주셨으면 좋겠어요. 이를테면 와플 기계 하나로 이것저것 다 구워먹는 기상천외한 레시피 소개 같은것? 보통의 유럽인들에게 와플 기계는 와플만 구워먹는다는 고정관념이 있어서 그런지 와플을 달지 않게 구워서 와플 샌드위치만 만들어줬는데도 엄청 반응이 뜨거웠거든요(제가 사는 지역에서만 그런지 모르지만) 주변 분들 리액션이 워낙 좋으셔서 그런것도 재미있지 않을까 싶네요.
회사다닐때 외국인들 제일 거부감 느꼈던 메뉴 중 하나가 냉면인데 막상 먹고나면 쌍엄지척 하는게 냉면. 회식할때 무조건 고기먹고 냉면 먹어야 마무리된다던 일본인, 미국인 동료들 생각난다. ㅎㅎㅎ
