- Today we finally finish our first day of training at the Commando Unit! And as a thank you to the soldiers who have been so hospitable and patient with us, and worked so hard to prepare this schedule, we decided to order a huge whole pig roast… and have a big party with the soldiers!

Even better... those aren't all officers. There we several officers but the large majority of them were enlisted men. The camaraderie between the O's and the E's is amazing. You can tell they are a very tight-knit bunch. And what a great ambassador for Britain, the Major was! All-around there was some good training, a ton of laughs, and people just being people. It's good to see!

In the US Marine Corps in particular, but the entire US military in general, there is very little "fraternization" that would be okay between enlisted members and officers. Things like a softball/baseball/football game would be okay. Going to a bar together would not be okay. So, having a high level of camaraderie between enlisted and officers is intentionally rare. While there is still a bond and a team spirit (esprit de corps) cutting up with each other isn't typical. Likewise, simply touching an officer, as an enlisted person, can get you into trouble. An officer touching an enlisted person can get them removed from their office/billet or released/separated from duty entirely (kicked out).
Sooooo... Seeing Es and Os not just laughing but patting each other jokingly, nudging with elbows, and etc is both odd and refreshing.

They are wealthy and powerful, built through the blood sweat and tears of their citizens and protected by the English common law system which allowed them to progress so swiftly and soundly. I don’t know why it gives me so much happiness to see so much cooperation between the Korean Army and this KRplus channel. Hats off though for the army to permit this. It’s so fun to watch as viewers. It’s really like nothing else. And I love their sense of humor. I’m literally binge watching the videos on this channel coz again ...happiness.
This video reminds me of the story my first doctor in Germany told of how he got invited for joined maneuvers with a Belgian regiment just across the border, maybe thirty miles down the road. His base had never received that kind of invitation when it involved crossing a border. The Brits or Americans in Germany occasionally threw out that kind of invite, so the concept wasn't entirely foreign. They discussed for days how much firepower would be impolite to bring, but how much was necessary not to get laughed at, and finally went with a relatively tame amount of tanks and rifles and whatnot.
They arrived to find themselves stared at by two hundred baffled Belgians with beef stew, fries, several crates of beer, and not even a jeep in sight. They'd gotten invited over to the least well equipped outpost in the entire Belgian kingdom; effectively quadrupling the war machines on base just by coming in. The Belgians had assumed the Germans knew 'joined maneuvers' was code for 'building morale through the communal ignoring of a slideshow and sharing of food'.

Cuz that would also make a difference (of course, most Army personnel are perfectly humble, but many will take every opportunity to make you understand how great they are for being officiers in the Army and how useless you are because you're a civilian or, even worse, a lower rank).

I've waited a LONG time for this series but IMHO it wasn't worth the wait, at all.
It's actually quite shallow. Specially considering that they've been selling "we took a LOT of footage".
So I'd be disappointed if they did anything less than a whole week.
@@leokim1458 with all due respect, but you seem to underestimate the effort and organisation that goes into organizing and documenting two days like that and then making compact 10-15 minutes videos out of that footage. Plus they created even more videos about the rest of the twins' korea experience, so ya, they actually did way more than "just" those two days at the army base.

I return this segment at least twice a year only because I enjoy watching the camaraderie among the Korean Englishman and that it’s just a nice and wholesome channel. I like the patriotism, the smiles and it is nice to see handsome men not covered in tattoos. Just normal people doing awesome stuff!

Watching the whole series a year + after it came out (i have rewatched it a couple of times) and the Korean Army parts always have me feeling a huge amount of respect for the Korean Army. Super glad you guys got some time with them.
I wonder if the country has more men living to an older age since mandatory conscription became a thing. All that mandatory exercise being required at a young age seems like it would set these guys off on a good path.

매복하는 영상을 보니 군에 있을때 혹한기 훈련했던 기억이 나네요.
혹한기 훈련중에 가장 힘든것중 하나가 매복이었습니다. 개인매복의 경우엔 겨울엔 땅이 얼어서 야삽으로 땅을 어느정도만 길게 정리하고 판쵸우의를 깔고 그 위에 은폐용 나뭇잎 등을 올리고 그 아래에 엎드려 매복을 하죠. 아무 움직임이나 소리없이 매복하고 있어야하는데 가장 문제가 되는건 추위였어요.
분대를 다시 몇개 조로 나눠 하는 조별 매복은 땅을 야삽으로 1미터가량 깊이로 파고 거기에 웅크리고 있으면 그나마 나은데 개인별 매복은 뭐랄까 그 추위가 공포였습니다. ㅎ
가만히 있는게 뭐가 힘드냐는 분들도 있을수 있겠지만 겨울철 산속 땅은 꽁꽁 얼어서 삽으로 파는것도 정말 힘듭니다. 조별로 파놓은 웅덩이도 땅에 스며든 물이 얼어있어서 그냥 냉동실이라고 봐도 무방한데 바스락거리는 소리를 없애기 위해 나뭇잎 따위만 걷어내고 맨땅위에 엎드려있는건 그냥 얼음위에 엎드린 꼴이나 다름 없죠.ㅎ 특히나 그런 매복훈련은 주로 야밤에 하니 그 추위가 그냥 상상만 하는 정도가 아닙니다.
근데 희안한건 그렇게 추울때 왜 그런지는 모르겠는데 담배를 피면 추위가 덜해요.ㅎ
담배는 냄새때문에 은폐가 노출되기때문에 매복시엔 당연히 못 피우는게 맞는데.. 너무 추우면 담배로 그 추위를 이겨냈던? 기억이 납니다.ㅋㅋ
