  • South Korea has launched its first magnetic levitation train service in the country's western port city of Incheon.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that the unmanned train which went into service today (Wednesday) runs the 6.1 kilometer track between South Korea's gateway Incheon International Airport and the nearby Yongyu Station in 15 minutes.
The maglev train is free to passengers and runs at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers an hour although it's designed to speed up to 110 kilometers per hour. One train can carry up to 230 passengers.
The operation made South Korea the world's second country to provide such maglev train services, following Japan.

We have to differentiate for which purpose we want a maglev train. For urban interconnection with a dense network of stations inbetween, there is no use for a highspeed maglev system. by Nature since we can not establish such accelerations in short distances and intervals. So, slow maglev is right for local and urban traffic service purposes. And relatively convenient.
Highspeed maglev trains make ONLY sense for longhaul distance services. See Japan where this is in construction for connecting the big cities in the way the "Shinkansen" railway trains already do and did since long. These trains will stop only at the main stations. The Shanghai train is indeed a "borderline case". For 30km, highspeed service is possible but it can use its top speed only for nearly one minute before having to slow down again.

I heard that it stacked right after it started business. To be honest with you, it doesn't look so good.
