I can confidently say that I was one of those people that didn't hate, but def underestimated the talent of YB. You can really hear the grunge inspiration on this. The pre-chorus is reminiscent of Kurt Cobain’s deep type vocal, and the ‘hey’ parts of the chorus itself SCREAMS Heart Shaped Box.

Um....I think Kurt Cobain did it well before Avril. In 1993 when she was probably a baby. And the music is a copy of Smells Like Teen Spirit. I'm not trashing Yungblud for lifting great Nirvana songs but honestly to say Avril was the influence for the "hey" part....please listen to Nirvana. If you like this, you will love Never mind and In Utero. Plus Teenage Dirt Bag by Wheetus (I don't like Wheetus myself but who cares).

Just discovered this guy at Louder Than Life. He really stood out, very talented, great charisma. Like Ghost to me is a throwback to 80's style pre-thrash heavy metal, Yungblud is a throwback to 80's era new wave punk. Everything about him is, to the way he speaks and stage mannerisms. Really awesome.
I've listened to some of his music for awhile now, but I too saw him at Louder than Life and now I listen to him even more. His show was so damn entertaining and he rocked hard. I'm like you, his throwbacks to what we used to listen to are what makes his music rock.
