Explained by an electrical and technology engineer:
Your phone will use 5 volts at 1 amp for basic charging, or 9 - 12 volts for fast charging. This direct current voltage cannot be transmitted through the air, unless you modulate it using alternating current and convert to DC using a FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER (I do watch ElectroBOOM) and a capacitor. And even then it probably wouldn't work due to the high resistance of air. The only reason radio, over-the-air television, Wi-Fi, cellular service work is because they transmit very high power signals and are furthermore amplified using a battery to drive a speaker or a display in the case of radio or TV. Oh yeah, and that dry erase marker does not conduct electricity unlike copper or aluminum which are commonly used in cables for their high conductivity.
