I'll stick to my trusty ol' composter that bakes everything to perfection in the South Texas sun. I thought this was an awesome concept when I heard about it... meh...not so much.
This product is using more watt hours just to badly compost food. People would use less energy by thermally insulating your home, and improving the power efficiency of plugs, outlets, bulbs, etc. But really people want a one tap solution to feel like they are being "Green" and "Environmentally conscious" without putting in any real effort. Even though many companies have tried to do this exact same product and failed, this is the spoon fed feel-good environmentalism that people are somehow to unwilling or unable to see.
Rent-a-Composter?!? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. This is a Shark Tank gone wrong!

Awesome concept. Crazy pricing. No regular family can afford to pay that subscription or that $1k to purchase it. C’Mon Mill, let’s make it affordable to the general public.
Think about this thing. Its using energy, likely generated by some carbon dioxide producing method, to dry and compost your food waste. How is that Green? The amount of energy required is not trivial. And then, they suggest that the most efficient use of this, is to load it up on a truck and drive it back to a farm. Which admittedly is far less carbon intensive than the energy used to create it but still, this is a not well thought out concept. Many Kickstarter campaigns have tried this concept and they all have gone bust.
I just checked out your site, I was excited till I learned the only options to get one is either 29 or 49 dollars a month, I have no intention of renting a kitchen trash can, that is nuts. However I am looking into some of your competitors who are willing to sell me a trash can, that I can proudly call mine... all mine!
Nutrichef has one on Amazon for $269 with 2 day delivery.

It seems like a very bad idea to send your biomass through the mail to begin with - what a waste of energy to transport your trash? Also, with today's intrusive businesses selling customer info, who can tell what they can make of what you send them? Do you need to have a subscription for this? I like the idea of taking kitchen scraps and making compost out of them - that could be a valuable asset to me since I like to grow my own veggies. Are you required to send in your scraps? That just seems like one of the worst ideas I've heard of.

I would be happy to pay for filters when I need a new one. I actually want to KEEP the food grounds. Why would I give it to them for free, and let them make money off of it? They should be paying me for it! And it's just product. Why on earth would I want a support team or impact reports? That's just ridiculous.
Wow, I was looking it up just for the bin. It is a monthly service? Pass. I mean I think it is great for a school or small office project, but I am a backyard homesteader big pass.

This company should not exist...The shipping of dirt is worse for the environment than just throwing out or composting any food scraps... Literally paying money to pollute the earth.

you can keep it. you dont need to send it anywhere, that is a misconception. that is an option for those that dont really have gardens

this is quite possibly the most idiotic idea I've ever heard of.
So, they are turning food scraps in to chicken feed. Huh. Put your uneaten food scraps into Mill, including all of your veggies, fruits, grains, eggshells and meats. MEATS. So, essentially you are feeding chickens chicken. Is anyone going to address this? I've looked at this product on many different sites and seen many reviews, but no one seems to consider the fact that they would be feeding this stuff, that includes chicken, to chickens. Gonna go ahead and say that I don't think this is cool. Would like if someone could shed some light on why I may be overreacting, but "breaking down and dehydrating the food" is not a good defense. It's still food. We don't feed cows jerky.

i believe this is an even more expensive version of the kitchen composter. which doesnt actually compost food (btw proper composting actually just smells like dirt), but rather just bakes all the water out as the video states. the food stops rotting until it gets moist again

@@theshuman100 Compared to most composters I've seen this is at least half price or less. That is probably why they have to subsidize it with a subscription. This is a product for well meaning eco-nerds with more money than sense.

this creates pre-compost. menaing you can feed it to your plants but its not 100% compost. it can speed up the composting process quite a lot though, but if you live in an apartment, or a cold climate region, its great. if you have a farm, and are already composting, then this isnt really a product for you.

The mill composter is a great idea if it does its thing with very low energy. But then shipping the compost off? Doesn't that obliterate any waste benefit by the waste of packaging and fuel for shipping? Personally, I just throw my food waste out for our chickens.
I thought the same thing, but I looked it up and they said they work with USPS to pick the compost up. Given that the postal service already makes their runs through the locations they pick up, that negates the emissions they would normally make if they did it on their own, plus the packaging is from 100% recycled materials for use, including the boxes they provide you when you sign up for it. It’s honestly kind of brilliant.

Nope they charge you $45/mo, or $30/mo if its an annual plan. You pay monthly, and they pick up your scraps and give them to farmers.

With this machine, you'd just be dehydrating it. It's the same as the Pela/Lomi piece of junk, except with a subscription to post away your dried scraps.

Seems expensive for what’s effectively a bread machine. I bet there are more unwanted bread machines than there are people willing to pay $33 a month to post scraps to a farm. I don’t expect there’s much to the “secret process”.
