      @Jarred Knox Because to be a master is to be at the top of one's craft. So most artists respect those who have achieved this level of discipline. Like martial arts, art takes time and practice to master. It is, unlike a lot of things, sequential in commitment when gaining perceived skills. Even those with natural talent lack experience, art then becomes a practice that requires you to fall autonomous in your dedication. With that churning, comes emotion, with emotion comes understanding and the infection spreads. Few times do I find things that so painstakingly open themselves up to you, both emotionally and educationally, in such a vigorous way. I find to truly achieve this one must commit, progress, and therefore master, a term in itself subjective to opinion, but one that still requires a learned and tried background to be taken seriously within one claim.
      I am very baked...

      one of the largest black communities in san francisco was displaced in the 1950's when the government built japan town to create housing for the japanese citizens that had been had been forcibly relocated to internment camps during WWII.
      the japanese american citizens lost their homes and all their property when the government forced them into the internment camps and the government claimed ownership of their land. Rather than giving their property back to them, the government created new housing and an ethnic community center by building Peace Plaza and displacing the african american community that had lived there.

    Fillmore and Bayview districts of San Francisco were filled with blacks building ships during WWII. Over time they were forced/priced out, accelerated in recent years by tech boom and super expensive rent. GEN-TRI/FI-CA-TION! A story worth telling.

    • @ggstatertots
      @ggstatertots 5 년 전 +65

      Yeah it's quite sad really. My grandmother and mom both grew up in Bayview and from what they tell me, it was super diverse. Blacks, Mexicans, Italians, Samoans, Tongans, Irish, Armenians, Persians, Palestinians, Cubans, Central Americans, Chinese, Filipinos, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc, etc all in that neighborhood for generations. Even Carlos Santana would practice in my grandma's basement. Now much of that is forgotten unfortunately as many of the residents have moved away. Many local young adults like myself can't even afford to live in the Bay anymore and are either perpetually living with their parents, moving away entirely, or have a lot of roommates and have multiple jobs just to scrape by. It kind of disgusts me seeing all these people who moved here for tech jobs eating at fancy restaurants that were once locally owned mom and pop restaurants while the locals don't get that luxury. And the tech money easily influenced local politicians for their own agendas over the actual agendas of the now struggling locals.

Even the grim truth behind what went down at Hunter's Point (dirty politicians people just LOVE because they don't know the truth about the water and the shipyards and the toxic dumping ...) I was spellbound, mesmerized, hurt, touched, healed, ripped open by every scene that just spoke the truth and kept on telling it. Shame too on the filthy corporations that are stealing the magic from The City. Sometimes, i think of the next big one. Just to be rid of the greed and the noise and the filthy congestion, the homeless who've been kicked from their affordable spaces to make room for off shore tech workers who make the big bucks.

      @@whatzittooya8976 Hahahahah you race vultures always find a way to complain. Blacks have won more than their share of Oscars per capita, and it's got nothing to do with "white savior tropes".... oh please... it's about the Oscar committee trying to perpetually appease Blacks, an utterly futile act because the racism, hatred, resentment, and bitterness won't go away by giving Oscars, upping affirmative action, throwing money at the community, etc. The allies get it the worst--- who needs enemies when you get treated that way? I avoid Black friends. now... I'm tired of being accused of racism over trivial bullshit. Tired of walking on eggshells to accommodate an insecure people who walk around viewing everything through the lens of race. Tired of being accused of having Black friends to "not look racist", by the friends themselves. It's not worth the trouble. Last Black man in San Francisco? boo hoo, a lot of people are being forced out of the city of all races.

The movies I'm refering to have gathered huge nominations and even wins for telling stories of disenfranchisement, pain and suffering upon people of color having their day saved by white folks instead of being the heroes of their own story (Green Book, The Help, Dances With Wolves, La La Land, Hidden Figures, Mississippi Burning, Glory, etc)
      FYI, There are only 46 Black Oscar winners (not counting the "Honorary" a.k.a "Death Bed" oscar) ... out of 91 years of countless nominees from numerous categories.
