A lot of people don't understand this, but when we say Alec is underrated we don't just mean in views on songs like Water Fountain or Let Me Down Slowly. A lot of people know Alec's hit songs, but they don't really know the guy behind them and how genuine he is or that he writes his own songs. For example, when I bring up Alec by name most people dont't know him until I say he's the singer-songwriter of Let Me Down Slowly. Sorry if you don't understand, I just haven't seen a comment about this.

I've been listening to Alec for almost six years now, I think. I'd always been a fan of his voice and his lyrics, but this one has a special place in my heart. I was going through a really tough time in my life when it came out. On top of some serious family fallout, I had just gone through the loss of my first love. We had been best friends and they had been the first person I genuinely trusted with my whole heart. It didn't end well... I loved them but we were young and their parents weren't exactly forthcoming with support. Back then, I used to wonder, what if we had run away and built a life together as we talked about? What if we left everyone behind just so we wouldn't be judged? I know now that it wouldn't have worked, but with every word in this song, I remember those painful nights of never knowing or understanding why things had to end the way they did.

As a girl with an anxious attachment style from being neglected as a child, I had issues when I was younger where I would get too close to guys sometimes even without really wanting to because I was so desperate for affection and acceptance, and I've always felt ashamed and judged about that being part of my past. But this song kind of helps me see it for what it was - that I was young and scared to be alone at night (I spent months completely alone because my dad left on a lot of trips and it was just us two) and that it doesn't mean I'm a bad person. This song portrays so much compassion, I love it ❤️

I remember when this song released. I never realized how early on I found Alec. This was back when I mainly listened to nightcore in middle school. I listened to all of his songs in nightcore at the time, but coming back to this song out of my nightcore phase 5 years later is just so nostalgic and nice. I was really surprised to hear more ppl knew Alec, not bc I didn’t think he was good enough, but bc I just never thought abt it. I remember when I first listened I immediately fell in love with his voice, I suppose it’s only natural that everyone who hears his voice feels this way. I’m glad Alec is still releasing music. I should go listen to all his older songs for old times sake. I remember crying all the time at night to Pretending lol
