I totally agree with you. As an italian I can compare this to ww2. As you know Italy supported Germany and back in the days they did horrible things (horrible isn't even enough to describe it) but in school we learnt about every single details of it, there are a lot of project where we met people that survived to Auschwitz and other places like that. So I think that education is very useful to do not repeat the same mistakes, they don't need to feel ashamed.

They hate the education system for keeping Japanese students ignorant of how their Empire treated their colonies, which means we can never be sure if they will grow up ignorant enough to repeat past mistakes. My told me stories here in the Philippines about japan, he told that my grandfather was in guerilla warfare in cities while Japanese troops occupied the country. They did many terrible things. I am truly sorry that you feel this way. I will advise you to search your history in international archives and not Korean ones. You might not think so, but your government has been and still is corrupt, and they use history and artifacts to strengthen the Korean spirit. Japan is much less corrupt than South Korea if you look up the corrupt nations of the world. It’s my understanding from my grandparents that during Japanese invasion in the Philippines, most soldiers that killed babies and women and those American soldiers violently were actually Koreans. Those Koreans soldiers brought to fight by Japanese. But, majority of those survivors spoked of how brutal those Korean soldiers were by throwing babies up in the air with bayonets. Some even said, that some Japanese soldiers were shocked by those Korean soldiers brutality. So, if they’re going to ask an apology again, maybe, they need to look at themselves historically cause they are not Angels themselves

As a Vietnamese this is kinda true. Japanese government are at fault for keeping denying it. But that seem to be a situation with most East Asian countries. China did a lot of horrible things to us when they invade in 1979 and a Korean company massacre an entire village during the Vietnam war and we never get an apology from neither. Even Korean vets in Vietnam protest when one of our victims and witness came to Korea to tell the story since they said it is "untrue".

My grandmother, who came from nanjing area, hated Japanese with a passion. She lost many family members during the war and the atrocities done by the Japanese eve army. She used to ban anyone from even mentioning Japan and referred to Japanese as dogs rather than humans bc of their infamous rapes and genocide. Growing up, my cousin was banned from liking Japanese culture Even though she loved anime and singers from Japan. thankfully that hate didn’t pass down. Until just weeks ago, there was never mention of the 2007 IWG report. Team members I was working with independently found the buried IWG report in the US National Archives, and they provided it to me. We studied it in detail, and weeks ago released its existence:

"Primary source information was also missing from the article regarding the facts behind the issue. Instead, the article simply regurgitated what others have claimed about the comfort women.
"The only evidence that the article provided to back up the narrative of forced prostitution was the words of the alleged, former comfort women. The author failed to submit any additional primary source materials. Earlier this year, the Asahi Shimbun apologized for reporting as fact without performing any background checks Seiji Yoshida’s discredited claims that he “forced comfort women into enslavement”. Perhaps the New York Times hasn’t yet learned the folly of reporting without due diligence.
"What the New York Times article failed to mention was primary source information, such as the Interagency Working Group’s (IWG) report on Nazi and Japanese war crimes, which it submitted to Congress in 2007. After spending 30 million dollars to go through over 8.5 million newly declassified documents, opened to the public under the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act and the Japanese Imperial Government Disclosure Act, the IWG was unable to find any evidence that gave credence to the claims of forced prostitution by the Japanese government or military. In fact, the report goes on to give an apology to the special interest groups who were eagerly looking forward to such evidence.
"Furthermore, “Report 49″ provided by the United States Office of War Information (OWI) in 1944 described the interview of 20 captured Korean comfort women. The report clearly identified them as paid prostitutes instead of sex slaves, and went onto describe how they participated “in sports events with both officers and men, and attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners”.
The primary source documents clearly noted that the comfort women were highly paid prostitutes.
"Interestingly, a group of South Korean women recently sued their government saying that U.S. forces in South Korea treated them as comfort women. While the U.S. media immediately responded by saying that they were prostitutes, those same media outlets have continued to refer to those comfort women, who had served the Japanese military, as sex slaves.
"Both Japanese and U.S. military bases, during their respective times, had “comfort stations” where men paid for sex with prostitutes. But curiously enough, those same prostitutes became “sex slaves” in name when served the Japanese military.

I agree that most people alive today shouldn't feel like they are guilty or responsible, because they are not. But at least at a governmental level there needs to be more apologies. And it is concerning when an event not that long ago (about a lifetime) is whitewashed or forgotten. Germany has done a much better job teaching the Holocaust to their citizens to ensure it is never repeated again.
The US killed a lot of Japanese, but it was the Japanese who attacked us first. The US firebombing major cities and killing tons of civilians is essentially a war crime and is in no way excusable. Japan threatened every other country in the Pacific region, and soldiers did horrible things to the citizens and enslaved many. Considering the US basically built Japan up from ruins and helped it to modernize, the least Japan could do is make public apologies or acknowledge their own history, and I think a great first step would be properly educating about its past. I think that by doing so countries can better address human rights issues like in China.
