This seems like a dream. When I was a wee kid, Yuh-Jung Youn played minor roles in TV soap dramas, mainly a divorcee back from USA, and my parents would talk how absurd she was. Later I knew she had been a quite star in Korea before I was born, and she married a musician who has kept entertaining so many lady friends, and after 10 years of married life in USA, the new place where they thought a new life would be possible for the family, he wanted her to allow him to live with a certain lady for a time, away from her and children, so she finally divorced him and came back to Korea, and to raise children alone, she had to play any tiny or weird roles the industry could give to her in then ultra-stuffy society which wanted , even in TV or films, to erase women who dared to divorce their husbands. Now I and my generation have grown to love her and all her works. She is a true trail blazer.
@@user-td2jl9gv5v Oof! I never knew she was divorcee. 0_0 I remember that Korean TV show who wanted to cancel episodes because it showed a single mom. I understant that every society has certain expectations of its people and am not one to blame SoKor for its unfortunate tendency to have such high expectations for people on the music and showbiz industry but I hope Youn's win open up discussions for these judgy types of people. I love Youn and I hope to see more of her work later on. :)

@@mavstermusic What 지구인 is talking about is what happened around 20~30 years ago. She divorced her ex-husband in the 80s. Now there are so many divorcees in South Korean Entertainment industry. People may be curious about why they divorced for a while, but it is no longer a big deal. Most of them are doing just fine.
And the cancelling of episode you mentioned was not about discrimination. South Koreans like that single mom a lot and respect her personal choice. And she's been saying she's gonna make that choice for a long time. But the way she got her baby is not legal in SK. And the real problem is : as everything changes "really fast" in SK, sometimes we need to stop to fathom long-term effect on the society before new trend set in.

@@asnoopy "Snobbish but not in a bad way" still doesn't equal a "roast" or that she was being "savage", and there we have it from her own mouth, and particularly in the context of receiving an award at the time. Your interpretation is what makes it ugly, which begs the question: what are you like at parties? I get on very well because I don't twist or assign negative connotations to other people's words to fit my agenda. Do let me know if I can elucidate further.
@@michaeldouglas9394 "not in a bad way" is what she said some time after the ceremony 🤦♂️ In the interview she showed that she genuinly thinks the Brits are snobbish (which is a widely known thing, so just learn to accept it), but doesn't think ill of them, that is what she means.
She was roasting at the ceremony for fun, which is quite a common thing to do. Plus, you can say someone is snobbish or arrogant or even ugly but can still roast about it in a friendly way.
Do you know what a roast is, though? In the US, it can specifically mean a good-hearted ridicule which you make for fun, often at a ceremony. (Asking because you are British and you might not use the word in this sense) At least accept she made a joke 🤦♂️ Geez, look at her smile after she says it for god's sake.

So it was a friendly tease. Snobbish and picky could be both used similarly to show her appreciation to be recognized by the British, but saying snobbish makes everything FUNNIER because it ridicules the Brits, do you get it? So stop being ridiculous saying she couldn't be joking because it's not her native language. You can be labelled racist if you insist saying it in public instead of on youtube. (If you disagree, I dare you to insist on it in an Asian community)
