Watching the footage of VE day 75 years ago made me realise how our Queen is a link through out modern UK history and how sad I'll be when she's not here.
Through modern history really.. speaking as a Canadian, its seriously amazing how long shes reigned ,is only one probably most people remember. So ,God save the Queen .
When the Queen Mother died, the Queen made a special speech where she said that the funeral would also be a reflection of "not just of her life, but for the times in which she lived". I think it'll be the same when the Queen passes away.
I'm American, and it's going to be brutal when QEII passes on to her reward ๐ฏ
Exactly some ppl say the queen/monarchy is pointless ect but I completely disagree.. having a non-political spiritual leader is SO important to our culture and identity. It allows our country to have a.UNIFYING leader that everyone loves and can get behind - politics is the opposite of this as it is inherently highly dividing both through periods of history and during the present prime ministers come and go and are always hated / disliked by one half of the population.
The fact the queen is above politics means everyone loves her she's a unifying and comforting figure to everyone in the UK and is a direct link to our history and culture. She brings a sense of stability to our very identity as a country.

Elizabeth II is an exemplary Queen, she is grounded and dignified. HRM has never embarrassed the monarchy, a few missteps yes, but never outright scandal. Really I don't know if the heirs apparent will be able to step into her shoes when the time comes. With great privilege comes great responsibility.

Itโs amazing how George VIโs speech improved from his declaration of war speech in 1939 to this speech in 1945. That speech therapy really helped him. And Elizabeth has a great speaking voice as well.

Although I'm not British and not Anglican, I find the Queen's speeches on any subject at all to be consistently honourable, dignified, superior, smart, intelligent, pleasing, truthful, down-to-earth, very human, noble, interesting and appealing, more than anything any of the popes at the Vatican has ever said, written or have ever done, in all of human history. The queen is more connected with the human race, that she is part of, more than any pope at the Vatican, past, present or future, at least in my book - And that is why I like, respect and appreciate the queen, like most of my fellow Commonwealth citizens do.
Well, she was classically educated, is very religious, and was brought up to have good manners and to serve others......those traits are all but forgotten nowadays, and they are traits scorned and mocked by present day "culture."

I remember having the crap bombed out of us day after day, night after night schools and streets machine gunned. V1 and V2. It was not only those in the armed forces but also the fire service and the Civil Defence Services and many others who fought the ground war in Britain? Those of us who were there remember them all. ๐ฌ๐ง

My great uncle served in WW1 and was a trawlerman during WW2. He shot down a Luftwaffe bomber as it lined up to bomb Aberdeen harbor and rescued it's crew. He earned the George Medal that day from her father. I've held that medal in my hand as my great aunt told me his story.
Hi from Milwaukee WI USA. My five great uncle's served during WW 2. All came back. My great uncle Dykstra was a Sargent in the U.S Airborne saw a lot action in the Netherlands. It came in handy he spoke Dutch and could ride a motorcycle. Best wishes to My cousin's across the pond in Great Britain!
