Renata Jurado, it’s called South Korea. North Korea is completely different than South Korea, so don’t just use the word Korea. Also, in almost every country, kids go around on their own. The United States is one of the few countries where parents are super over protective. This is the reason that many people in the U.S. struggle when they go to college, because they aren’t used to being independent, and they expect everyone to bend over for them and do things for them. My mom is from Germany, and when she was a kid, starting from first grade (7 years old), she would ride her bike over a mile all by herself to get to her bus stop, to go to school. I understand that it might not always be safe, to go out on your own as a kid, but going into the real world after high school, and being overwhelmed, and not knowing what to do is even more dangerous.

Actually parents in Japan and Korea (maybe China as well) are encouraged to let their kids walk and come back from school all alone. That just proves that it is safe and trustworthy In these countries.

I once sing loudly with my cousin in the midnight on the way home, it was so dark and quiet around us, just our loud voice, until somebody from nearby house yelled shut up.
These kids are so smart you wouldn’t find American kids speaking other languages so easily. Also in America, the school would worry about you approaching kids thinking you are dangerous. I am shocked they are without adults. Love your show.

my family went to seoul last week and somehow got lost in the subway station, we ask some elementary kids for direction and surprisingly they converse in english easily. I told my husband that the new generation of Korean are much more open in learning second language compared to the elders hence when going to korea asking directions from younger locals will be convinient. it was amazing experience 😊
BTS-ARMY_EOMMA most of us have been learning English not just this generation. my mom speaks fluent English as well as my brother and I. however my dad is from Seoul and he never had the time to learn it growing up. the only reason some elders don't speak it was probably because they couldn't take extra lessons and etc. we're from a small part of busan but it's definitely not because "we aren't open to it" just some don't have access.

우리나라는 회화보단 문법을 가르치고 문법 시험을 치루죠
수능은 너가 대학교 왔을때 영어로 된 학술논문을 읽을 수 있나라는 것을 평가하기위해 만든 것이고 그래서 너는 이런 교육과정을 따라야지 너가 나중에 좋은 대학 오면 회화 배울 수 있다.

As foreigners, we got lost at the subway station, it was too hard for us to communicate with the adults. Until, I remember a lot of Korean kids learn and speak English nowadays. Luckily, we saw a bunch of kids and ask them politely if they can help us. Indeed, they were glad to help us with a smile on their face and we're able to find the right way. So thankful to those kids.

I was an online English teacher to Korean students, kids, teens and adults for years and I can say that Koreans can actually learn how to speak English fast if they already know the basics such as the alphabet. Sometimes though they just find it hard to express themselves well due to limited vocabulary. Koreans learners are very kind and warm people.

This is a very exceptional situation in Korea, too. Korean adults don't talk to elementary school students. And that place is the safest place in Korea, so children seem to have lost their guard.

I taught English to Koreans of all ages for about 5 years - from zero knowledge to beginners to advanced. In my observation, the younger the kids, the faster they learn the language and the smarter they are because they’ve more eagerness and patience.
Whenever I look at the cute kids, they make me happy. Even though they don't speak Enlgish at all, I feel their warm and kind heart even in the United States. 10 out of 10 in their cuteness.

@@mieve1743 아무래도 강남의 학교를 다니려면 근처에 살 가능성이 높고 강남 근처 집은 혼자 원룸에 살더라도 집값이 다른 지역 4인가족 사는 집값보다 몇배 비싸니까...
애초에 강남에 학교가 많아서 학교까지 걸어서 갈때 멀어봤자 10~15분이에요ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 애초에 대중교통이나 차타고 갈 거리가 아님.. 그리고 올려치기 ㄴㄴ해 강남 28년째 거주중인데 학원다닐때 항상 걸어다니거나 버스타고 다녔음

We have had French in school but I was more interested in Japanese and studied Japanese after class.
Now years have past, and whenever I hear French I automatically want to answer in Japanese,e because eI have like no connection to French anymore but I was learning it around the same time.
It's very random but I guess the little girl had it similar with English and Japanese here. She is learning both languages so her brain automatically switches to foreign language and access to both connections.

That's Korean English edu's problem and I'm Korean like them and I can't speak English well cuz Korean English education is terrible. at first I thought Korean Eng edu is great but It turned out super terrible! Korean people are having many English knowledge but they cant speak English cuz they've been learning only English grammar so that's why. anyway I don't wanna belittle to their English skills haha..
