This seems to be based off an old show called “Jenny Jones Show”. A specific episode being “Hay PUNK lose The FUNK!!” It’s a disgusting episode that brings unique guests on to sit in front of an audience of “normal” people and are thrown with shame/snarky remarks. Even the guests’ parents/friends are talking down on them RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. After everything, they change the guests’ looks/fashion to make them look “normal” for the crowds pleasure. It’s the perfect visualization of “dress how people want you to dress you are not an individual”. ------ Now on this music video: I consider the show host (mac demarco) to be an abstract Jenny Jones. A lot of the guests (Wyatt & Fletcher) are dressed in Punk fashion (like the episode’s guests) and are sitting beside their (assumed) loved ones who appear to be sad/angry/serious (like the guests’ parents/friends were). ----- Mac, is later on revealed to be the devil in disguise, this is a representation of how evil this mindset is (to make all people look and act the same). Afterwards the audience sees Mac is the devil and starts rioting against him. This shows that we can free ourselves from being blindlessly pup-petered (by brainwashing shows such as the Jenny Jones Show) and see the true evil (telling us how to look, act, feel, etc.), we should fight to protect everyone’s uniqueness and learn to appreciate it (even if we’re not fond of it). ------ This vid has a wonderful message. Be yourself no matter how hard the pressure is. Have fun doing crazy looks. You will never be happy being someone you’re not. Be you.
