She had qualities of a modern day woman. And her wardrobe was top notch. I found myself looking up all her outfits. Mun Yeong is the most honest character.. She is brave..To be a child of trauma and to somehow be able to face the world . She is honest ,volatile and more understanding than people know. She sees Gang Tae not because she's lonely but because she sees him. The strongest emotion is the need to be understood and to know someone in the world sees you for who you are. As an child and as a adult he spends so much time wearing a mask and bottling up his feelings. That he is always about to explode. She gives him a place to release the pressure even when she doesn't understand.. And yet she is still fragile and a little lonely girl. In a way they are teaching each other how to live in the world..
Finally a strong female lead! I was kinda bored with the usual innocent- puppy eyes-need to be protected type of female lead.

I only watched this series in 2024 and my goodness, what a brilliant body of work!!! I loved this take on mental health issues due to childhood trauma. The protagonists experienced different types of traumas that shaped their world views and how they respond to situations. Most importantly, it was refreshing to see how broken souls found healing in each other as they were able to empathise.

I agree with you about how excellent this drama is. It is entertaining, funny, heartwarming, yet personal for me, given I have two younger brothers who are high-functioning yet autistic.
Casting was also very well-done. Seo Yeaji was absolutely fantastic in this drama, regardless of what people think of her. As it happens, I first saw her in _Lawless Lawyer_ , also starring Lee Joongi, one of my favorite actors.

I read somewhere that Hollywood was starting to look at Seo Yea-ji for roles but the problem is that actors act according to what is written on a page. The reason It's Okay to Not Be Okay was so great is because it was written that way. A great actor can't save badly written material. A decent actor can perform better with well written material. The reason this series was so great was that first it was written that way. We understand the characters and their behavior and emotional underpinnings because the writers allowed us to. We could see why they fell in love and what their love did for each other. That understanding is a product of great writing. Something Hollywood is lacking in.

Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji chose the best characters for themselves. It was not an easy drama to portray and pour out emotions through expression, you also have to give 100% in your body language also. In human healing drama's it's not easy to act on, but they did their best...and I'm so proud of them. I hope that they will achieve more in their coming life. And I really wish to watch them in another season (2nd season) of IOTNBO or in some other drama as the leads. Hope for the bestβ€οΈ
