Let us applaud him for "waking up" from his addiction, working at it, succeeding for his kids, for himself. That is success more than any Oscar can give you.

He was the one who mentioned his kids in the Stern interview in relation to feeling trapped, so it's a little hypocritical of him to say he's hurt by how they will be affected by the comments in the media. He should just not speak about it, like Jennifer Garner doesn't.

It was on of his best interviews!! He was so honest and raw!!! He barely opens up like that. He never said anything negative about his ex wife, he never talks badly about her like ever since I’ve been following him. All he said is he felt trapped in that marriage bc he was staying in it for his kids. He was unhappy so his drinking got out of control, he never once blamed her for his drinking, that’s all on him. He praised her, he even said she told him to get help, and he agreed. And that if he continued in that marriage it wouldn’t have done him any good bc he would have kept self destructing, he was unhappy, they grew apart. That’s it. It happens.❤️

I don't know Ben Affleck personally, I know he has a public persona and is subject to this stuff, but he is totally right. The media, "journalism", as a whole, disgusts me. He's sober and finally called it quits on his marriage. I know that sounds like a bad thing but when your in a relationship that's not working it's better for your mental state to move on. He's also dating jlo now and seems to be getting plenty of work these day. These might be some of the factors.

This is a perfect example of how trashy tabloid media can make a clickbait headline and run with it. If anyone had bothered to listen to the entire interview you would realize how much his words got twisted.

I listened to the interview and couldn’t understand how people concluded he blamed Jennifer Garner for his situation. I think people just wanted to drag him down. He didn’t blame Garner at all. It’s the same thing with Chris Pratt. I’m not a fan of the guy but he didn’t shade his ex wife or son for being happy with his current wife. People are just bored!

Loved the movie The Tender Bar and Ben was great in the movie. I didn’t even know it was about a bar and family from Manhasset, NY - which I used to live there…
Just got done watching The Tender Bar. So many of us grew up without a dad and had some other male figure raise us. For me it was old dead philosophers. The themes running through this movie are reminiscent of those found in Good Will Hunting. I suspect Affleck comes from a similar background himself which is why he is able to pull off these characters so well. All respect to him.
I saw the mutilated clip of the Stern interview - and even in that Ben did not say anything wrong. People are arguing about it, but I do not see why. He never blamed her, he never blamed his kids, he said he felt trapped and made a bad decision on how to deal with it (drinking). He never blamed anyone but himself.
I agree, what he was saying resonated so much with me, I felt trapped and very unhappy in my marriage and gained a lot of weight because of it and that wasn’t my ex husband’s fault but the marriage was a contributing factor. Now I’m so much happier and going to the gym 4 days a week. What he said made so much sense to me.
He didn’t take ownership of his alcoholism he blamed his wife and kids. He will never recover until he takes ownership of the problem.

I appreciated his clarification. I had read one story about his Stern interview-I don’t recall where, and the headline was, of course, misleading and way more salacious than the content of story. As a fellow human with, at times, unhealthy coping mechanisms, I understood the distinction he made with his original statements, but I could see how some folks would interpret it differently. 🤷🏻♀️

There's no way to undo that or call it trickery by the media. He specifically said that with reference to Jennifer Garner and the unhappy marriage that he felt trapped in.

I don't know about "waffling". But he was addressing something serious and very personal that had JUST happened and was THE elephant in the room. To have to bring this kind of thing up on Kimmel would be awkward, at best, for absolutely anyone in his position. But I think he did an admirable job getting his thoughts and feelings across and just speaking his piece.
I hope the workers who passed on that headline as clickbait see this interview and reflect on what he said. I’ve worked at a celebrity news magazine and it’s crazy how they truly try to find click bait. They try to find the catchiest headline. It’s the only reason I hardly click on things, but sometimes the curiosity can get me from time to time.
But overall clickbait is mean and it’s rude to those it “reports” on. Ultimately I left because the whole thing just wasn’t my scene. But I’m so glad he spoke up. Now I want to hear the full interview. And now as a fan I will be more sensitive to headlines and ultimately decide if I don’t know them personally then I don’t know who they are. And I’ll be a fan of their work and that’s where I’ll draw the line.

That Howard Stern interview was the celeb interview of the year. It bugs me that he was penalised for it, cause it’ll stop celebs from being human beings publicly & they’ll just stay in the safe zone of being fake & just selling their products.
to be fair it’s not a celeb thing. if you did the same thing with family and friends they would also gossip behind your back and take things out of context. this is just on a larger scale.
He forgot to hold back on his real feelings bc his words with Howard Stern were his real feelings. He did not love Garner and he certainly did not want to stay married to her as long as he did. Still, she didn’t want to let him go, which is how Ben started drinking again; she kept him on a leash using the “kids” excuse until she finally had enough of him going off the rails (due to being trapped). If she felt trapped, trust that she would’ve signed the divorce paper longgggg ago, she still loved him, he did not. Now he’s free and happy, what he had wanted for a very long time. His statement was taken out of context in all the tabloids. Shame on you for talking down on alcoholism which is a disease that was passed on to Ben from his father. There are levels, and he had it controlled while he was with JLo 1.0, then it was out of control during his marriage and now back to normal now that he’s happy. The story is clear as day, and I’m just glad that he is where he always wanted to be, free and finally with the REAL love of his life Jlo 2.0!
