It's funny how in the lore, the runes can level a whole city, but in game: "+5% movespeed bonus"
I think in-game ones they are just shards of true runes.
They are not the same runes, the runes Ryze is searching from came from before the void.
The runes in game are parts of the whole not an entire one. At the very least you'll need all the runes in a color for a single true rune (and potentially much more)
Also most Darkins/Aspects/Ascended/Demons/Freljordian Demigods/Voidmonsters could level a city in lore too.

I always considered Ryze a Big lore character... Now i consider him the Main character of league of legends. Hes always there during a major event, fighting alongside other champions.

considering runes are part of the world, if not the world itself, him seeking these runes to seal from mortal hands for centuries already, he's either main character or second main character that does the heavy load in background. I mean... he's literally the reason why the world still exists as simple fragments of the runes posses so much power that leveling a city is just like slapping a fly.(tho i think fragments aren't that powerful, it's the full runes that has such power)

I wonder if this was/still is cannon though... especially with all their new cannon lore development and story progression through Legends of Runeterra and etc. I’m very hype for this expanding world and many stories to come!
@@thetillter2228 It should be canon. All of those places and people in those places exist and would do as they have done. The thing about Ryze is that he, alongside a few other champions, can have a really expansive lore with many stories and cinematics. But Riot don't want to commit that much into one champion and so they gave us this cinematic to show his struggle of finding the runes.

its not the same runes; the ingame runes are separate from the lore. these runes are called world runes, and are some of the most powerful things in the universe

it's maybe not any more something potential. we saw ryze playing with runes when jayce was a kid. It wouldn't make sense to add this part if they had not a greater picture in mind. I am now really looking forward to seeing more of their series projects

Update 19/11/2021: Watching Arcane as of now - wishes do come true. Also love the whole art style of Arcane. It makes me feel like the splash arts in all the lores and everything felt so recognisable yet so new. I especially love the music, the score - it's no secret that if Riot were a music company, nobody would even bat an eye with the bangers they release every year. Everything in the series was so catered to the scene that no music ever felt like it took me out of the moment. Not to mention, the theme is GREAT. It has SUCH a Riot and League touch to it, I just cannot explain how much joy and nostalgia it gives me.
What a wonderful time to be alive.

Precision - Yellow
Domination - Red
Inspiration - Missing
Sorcery - Purple
And many more runes we have yet to discover.

I belive the last rune is inside Nunu, the rune can creat anything from his imagination, the inspiration rune
Nunu rework lore involves nunu fusing with a blue gem - possibly the inspiration rune because inspiration is blue and the 'blue gem' lets nunu's imagination coming to life

Dunno why they have such a hard time making him effective. At this point he is fated to forever be in the "kinda okay" category for mid picks.
His burst is insane, yes but his mobility and sustain are so pathetic that if his burst fails to kill his target, he is done for. Extremely susceptible to ganks. His ult is so situational that you can go entire matches without having a good reason to use it.
Poor Ryze. One of the strongest mages in the lore, but just kinda "meh" in the game proper.

One of the strengths of Arcane's storytelling is the grounded stakes of it's setting; having Ryze show up doesn't really add to or help that. Also, just because the magic swirls of the hexcore are reminiscent of the Runestones doesn't mean it's the same caliber of power.

If he were to use the runes, he’d be a top five most powerful entity in the lore. Up there with Asol and mordekaiser, makes the ascended look like foot soldiers.
Idk about ascended warriors remember they were the ones who stop and halted the void from truly coming to runeterra literally an aspect could do to stop these corrupted ascended warriors was to seal them in weapon yet they still exhibit huge amounts of power
