So relatableโฆ
I love the fact that, while cristine is goofy, she cares a lot about education, and she is proof that you can have both a professional life, and a time consuming hobby.
@@emeraldbonsai maybe, but in the beginning, that was not the case. Also, even if its part time, its still a career, which is really cool !

@@homedepot. im sorry, I didn't mean it that that way. What I meant was that it's cool that she isn't encouraged/bugged by fans to "show more" and that her fans accept her as she is, as I've seen a lot of other influencers be told those things and feel like that was the only way to get views.
If you are comfortable showing off your body, power to you, it takes a lot of confidence to do that, and I definitely dont have that confidence.

lol
I guess its just having long hair that is not gray that makes the biggest difference. Older people usually for some reason prefer shorter more convenient hair, which is usually associated with being old. Might be just me, but that is how I see it.
She said Ben was one of her first students so she would be a relatively young prof
Profs dont normally start out old. They have long careers. Some start in their early 30 to mid 30s
This is literally why Cristine is one of the best creators on YT imo, she actually cares about the world outside our computers. She's so generous and amazing, such a huge inspiration.

Honestly Itโs so refreshing/inspiring to see people like you follow the careerโs their passionate for, regardless of their age. Love hearing this!! Congratulations, too!! I spent about 11 years in the field and am back in grad school now. I actually know the reference here! (I'm usually totally out of touch, this is why it's amazing lol). It's a Vine (RIP) reference to a young girl with a LOT of seagulls (I believe) in the area and she says, "Look at ALL those Chickens!" It's cute and funny lol.

So gratifying to hear her talk about how education is *not* job training but still has utilitarian value. This prof would have for sure been one of my favs.
Not gonna lie, hearing that people go back to school in their 80s makes me feel so much better about waiting a few years before starting a masters program. A lot of my friends started their programs right after undergrad and are either finished or about to be. I guess I started feeling like I was falling behind, which I realize sounds ridiculous. I am, however, starting my masters program in January so I'm excited...... but also fucking horrified ๐
You're never too old to start new things or continue old paths in life โฅ best luck to you! You can do it!!
ngl it seems like a good choice once you're retired and just have some money and free time to spend on whatever you want. idk how many will have that reality in the future/even now but yeah. personally i find uni impossibly stressful and do not think i would do that tho lol. maybe college for fine arts tho. actually i'd like to do that sooner.
I'm going back for Masters after a break too! I think it's beneficial to wait so you can really step back and explore your options
I always tell my students that thereโs no timeline youโre meant to follow. Your college degree doesnโt have a due date. You have to do what is best for you when itโs best for you. Just because a lot of people take one path through life doesnโt mean you need to
Can we appreciate how cool the professor is? Like she's soo chill yet articulate. It's what I aspire to be!
Now can we get a podcast episode with SimplyProf? I donโt care what topic you talk about all I know is that sheโs one of those people that I could listen to talk for ages. I have a University lecturer like this and he just makes all the content we cover enjoyable to go through and always has the most interesting little side tangents and stories.

The comment at 10:47, "You use your education in every aspect of your life" -- so many people look past this, but it's so incredibly true. You carry your experience with you and it shapes how you interact with the world around you thereafter. I'm happy that it was said like this in this video. Also, this whole video was fantastic. I think it's now time to watch a live Mario Kart race tbh. ๐๐๐ขโญ
@@emeraldbonsai I think it also depends on where you live. If you live in a country where education if free or very affordable, it is not a terrible decision to spend years in an educational institution figuring out which direction is the right one regardless of whether or not the content in the areas of study will prove valuable later on. I live a country like this and we are slowly developing the problem of having so many young and overqualified people
Cristine congratulations on getting your on SCHOLARSHIP name after you! I find it so inspiring how much you try to persuade people to continue their education and it has really motivated me to get my grades up as a 10th grader here in the USA. New life goal unlocked: have a scholarship named after me and help current students! You must be so proud of yourself! That is so awesome! I hope I continue to have wonderful relationships with my professors just like you! Congrats Cristine!
It's so great seeing that Cristine and her Prof have such a great connection. Cause of corona, I don't think most of my profs even know who I am
I think she's her grad advisor. That student teacher relationship is usually a lot tighter than anything in undergrad
@@Gladiva19 Cristine says in the vid that she was this professorโs teaching assistant and that simplyprof was also Cristineโs thesis external examiner-so not grad advisor.
You can always go the extra mile to make sure they know who you are! Join the class a few minutes earlier and talk about personal events, use your life when asking for examples and send them emails about random things. I asked my phonology teacher what alophone he thought a singer used in a specific part of a song (something that bothered me since I was 9) and I said the contents of the class reminded me to the song but I wasnt sure (obviously I dont have a trained ear like he does, so my guesses were probably faaaar away). I bet ge will remember me, even if its by "she was enthusiastic about the topic. She was eager for knowledge. She has critical thinking outside the classroom". Profs are also human beings and they feel insecure when students dont show appreciation or engagement for their jobs. So they are most likely also eager to have certain comnection with their students.
I had a teacher first year and I took another class with her. Then I took another one (but dropped it) then I talked to her about being TA for her class and she said no, but invited me to participate at extra reunions with her and some other students to talk more about some topics. Then I asked again to be her TA, and I got the position. Most of this happened online, but I'm certain she will remember me!
@@Gladiva19 a grad advisor can also be a professor. My advisor has like 5 classes I have to take

Office hours are so lonely most of time. I am sitting there weekly for an hour or more just to help students, but itโs rare that someone comes for help and itโs unfortunately usually not the people who need it the most. ๐ You donโt even have to come with a specific question or problem. @@SCSilk I know a lot of people feel like that, but you are a student because you are still learning. No one expects you to be an expert, and we expect you to need help. im in my first year of collage currently and am struggling with virtually everything, so it's nice to see such a sober video about collage and see it as a normal thing almost everyone goes through, thank you Cristine, and thank you to your unbelieveaby cool professor
I don't live in Canada, but for some reason this made me cry tears of joy! I don't think I can grow more appreciation than what I already do towards her. Thank you Cristine for all the good things you do
This is gonna be so wholesome! โคโค
SIMPLY WELCOME BACK QUEEN
this is why youโre one of my favorite people. you not only advocate for something thatโs important to you, but you also act on it!! itโs so hard to find people like you and iโm so glad youtube has you, it doesnโt deserve you ๐ฅบ
That's an awesome donation! Glad to know you're helping students and support education! ๐โค it's so true one can use their education in anything in life even if you don't work in that field later ๐
I missed your main channel videos!! I love the podcast a lot but this is a different experience ๐๐
Finally another simply video!!! So excited โค
having a scholarship under my name is literally one of my goals in life, especially being an undergrad and knowing the financial struggles. you have real influence on people and as much as there are negative connotations to the word, you're a real influencer that people look up to and respect.
I love that you created an actual scholarship for students at your alma mater. Thatโs amazing and will help a lot of people โค๏ธ
i know simply will never see this, but ive been watching since the beginning and she has inspired me to go back to school. im getting my ba in psych, and hopefully a masters after that
If Cristine doesn't do an academia themed holo collection next, I'm going to be very sad. Also, as a fellow academic, this was a joy to watch! :)
This is so wonderful, I love this so much. Cristine has always made a lasting impact, but now a continuous one at her university is so amazing to see!
This is just amazing! I love whats youโve done for students, I donโt even live in Canada but the fact that youโre helping good people makes me really happy.
Itโs nice to see you post on this channel again. ๐ฟ
