Pulled an all-nighter in college to finish an essay that was due the next morning. Was a fight to stay awake for the 40 minute drive to college but almost got into a head-on collision with a dump truck from college to work. Needless to say I was wide awake until I got home and passed out for 14 hours.

As a former (and proud) owner of a 2004 Chevy Cavalier as a first car (that I also wrecked) this story hit very close to home 😂. I rolled mine into a field when a deer jumped out in front of me though

My first car is a decade older, 1994 toyota 4runner. Absolutely love this car, surprisingly everything is fine with it despite 270k miles. Yes i plan on fixing it up, no i dont care if its just a v6 toyota. Its cool and i love it

I just crashed my first car back in April, I’m 19 years old. My first car..er, truck, I should say, was a 2006 Ford Ranger. I loved that truck to death. It had 201,000 miles on it and could’ve easily ran up to 300,000, and I’ve only owned it for 2.5 years. But one evening, while I was headed to my parents place, I went to make a pass around a Chevy Equinox that was brake checking me for about 2-3 miles. My already thin patience wore out (long day at work) and when I went to make the pass (on a 2-lane country highway) that’s when a brown car that I didn’t know was in front of the Equinox went to make a left turn into a driveway. I stomped on the brakes and swerved hard to the left to avoid T-boning the brown car, the brakes locked up, and the tires screamed for about half a second before I left the pavement, at that point the brakes became ineffective as I was on loose gravel and dirt, and it had just rained the day prior, so the ground was still muddy. I ended up plowing into a tree at 40mph and wrapping the front half of my Ranger around it. I couldn’t swerve to the right to avoid the car because I would’ve taken the Equinox with me into the ditch on the other side of the highway. Despite the severity of this accident , I walked away with no injuries, only my right thumb feeling like it was jammed in a door (due to the way I hold the steering wheel, one-handed and at the bottom, airbag clipped it) and I was perfectly coherent. I had a guard on the front of my Ranger as well, and one of the firemen who responded to the scene told me that had I not had that guard on there, the accident would’ve looked totally different.
The following Monday I went to the tow yard to pay my fees and have my truck back, I had my buddy bring a trailer so that we could haul it back to my parents place. I got in the truck with the hopes of it still running, and to my amazement, after my buddy pulled the fuel cut-off fuse out, the truck fired right up, sounded like shit since the fan was destroyed, but it ran, and it ran just long enough for me to drive it up onto the trailer before the motor started overheating due to the coolant leaking out. We did the same for getting the truck off the trailer and parking it in front of the garage. Over the past 4 months, I’ve continued to strip it of as many parts as I possibly could, I went out and bought another Ranger (this one a 2008) that looks basically identical to the old one now. The 06 currently sits as a shell in my parents garage awaiting to be scrapped next week.
A couple things the 06 had that I miss on the 08:
3.0L V6 motor (Vulcan V6) (08 has 2.3L I4)
5-Speed manual transmission (08 has 5-speed automatic)
Speakers behind seats (08 is base model truck whereas 06 was XLT model)
I still drive by the scene of the accident almost on a daily or weekly basis, the flashbacks don’t haunt me as much anymore, but when I pass by, the memories still linger.
I had a 2000 Tundra as my first truck. Only had her for about a year when I was off-roading one day and came around a turn with a lot of washboard in the road. I was obviously going a little faster than I should’ve been so I lost traction, swung back and forth two times trying to save it but eventually ended up in a ditch where the truck flipped upside down and then on its side. I didn’t have my seatbelt on and I flew out the passenger window, I woke up with the truck on top of my head and my face squished into the side of the ditch but luckily I was able to squeeze out. I called up my buddy, we had to flip it twice then we towed it, scrapped it, and told insurance I sold it. Walked away with only a few scratches from the broken glass.

I think about this video so much. I have issues with staying awake and ever since I moved and my commute is longer on my drive home a lot of the time I start to doze off. I keep thinking in my head now "if you're falling asleep while driving a motor vehicle, don't drive the motor vehicle!" And it's actually been really good advice 😅 thanks for playing voice of reason in my mind

I've tried to drive home on the verge of falling asleep a few times... It's pretty terrifying. Now I DO pull over and take a nap if I'm that exhausted [although in some places you can get a ticket for sleeping in your car... grr]

One time I was out drinking with some friends. I left around 330 in the morning and all I remember was turning onto the main road to head home, next thing I know I wake up in front of my house car in park and still on. I got out and saw I didn't hit anything but I don't remember the drive home at all. Needless to say I never drink and drive anymore!
