You know when you hear a word over and over and it stops sounding like a real word? This video does the opposite. With each repetition I became more aware of the true meaning of Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage.
I think it's incredible that in a world where "random doesn't equal funny" is either true, if you've seen it too many times, or false, if you have a broken enough sense of humour, BDG makes it consistently funny because of the sheer amount of effort and time he puts into these types of videos. That's a very specific talent, and the world absolutely needs it.
Random humour often becomes funny when you can tell a lot of effort was put into it. It raises the question of why anyone would do this, but there is no point in asking that because there is no point in the art itself. It's simply just absurd. There isn't exactly anything being said or any form of message. I think random humour and existentialism can relate to each other because they both take a stance in the absurd. The sheer weirdness of life and why it exists parallels humour like this. Why would anyone put effort into this? The answer is WHY NOT?! Life is weird, so make weird things! Hopefully that makes sense. The best part about random humour is that you can disregard everything I just said and still find it equally as funny.
i think we need to accept that old internet adage of 'random doesn't equal funny' is actually just false. random *can* be funny, depending on who is doing it, just like all comedy.
I disagree with this as a general statement anyway. Most humor comes from the unexpected (what else is a punchline?) and random is nothing but unexpected.
@@ThePunikaTV Punchlines (and a lot of comedy in general) are not necessarily the unexpected as much as the subversion of expectations. Random shit is only funny if people are expecting something else.

Roasted. Garlic. Summer. Sausage. Long ago, the four Nations lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Summer Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an sausagebender named Brian. And although his sausagebending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Brian can save the world

With the tension of the first note and the slow zoom, I was fully expecting something on the spectrum from existential dread to full blown unshakable horror and nothing could've prepared me for what this masterpiece actually is
I come here when I have a bad day. The rising moment that explodes with meaty garlic summer sausage euphoria cuts through my darkest day. Thanks Brian.
I was trying to figure this out while listening through - is it possible that every repetition of "roasted summer garlic sausage" has a unique melodic structure? It's like the 12-tone series harmonic equivalent of cured meat!
Yes. Came here for this. The melody is haunting and complex and makes me feel so much... So I am now emotionally relating to a roasted garlic summer sausage
Recently I've been kind of obsessing over a situation that was deeply frustrating, but it's over now, there's nothing I can do to change it, and I'm working on spending less time thinking about it. Now when I start spiraling about it, I sing RGSS in my head to drown it out and lighten the mood. Roasted garlic summer sausage has truly brought me peace in a troubled time.
I know this is a weird video to comment this on but I wanted to thank you for always putting such detailed subtitles on your videos. I have auditory issues so it's hard to understand videos, especially with background sounds at the same time as voices. So many youtubers just ignore subtitles and you can lose a lot of info. Not only do you put subtitles but also audio description. I know it takes extra work so I just wanted you to know it's really appreciated.
@@aidanallen1976 It’s not just WHAT they were singing (we know they’re saying Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage!), it’s HOW they were singing it. Subtitles that also have auditory descriptions help with conveying that a lot!
Why is this song about a sausage so melodious and gorgeous? Like the HARMONIES it’s so beautiful it has no business being this exquisite. Also I have to say, knowing how good of a song writer team Brian and Karen are, the GALL to make a song where the only lyrics are “Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage” and STILL have it be a fucking banger. The audacity, the talent
Okay, did anybody else realize that at the beginning when Brian was singing "Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage," he seemed uncertain, and his smile, or attempt thereof, was forced. But then by the end you can hear how Brain is singing with his whole heart out "Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage" with every fiber of his whole soul, and you really feel the roasted garlic summer sausage in your bones. We can see his true smile, his true jubilation of Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage. We truly see the arc of Brain David Gilbert being unsure or roasted garlic summer sausage, and by the end seeing the light, and wanting to share the beauty of Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage with everyone.
I'd like to imagine some park ranger out on their job, walking around, making sure everyone's being mindful of the Joshua Trees and then seeing Brian just belting out tunes about sausage.
Me the ALPHA M*LE of this comment section and me command RESPECT. Right now me telling you to NOT observe any of me nice cool sweet videos. Instead just look at me awesome good powerful thumbnails. Thank you, dear ga
This happened because Brian was chopping up some sausage for a charcuterie board and began randomly singing to himself as he worked and then Karen joined in and they thought it'd make a fun and silly video, didn't it?
This is so plausible that I don't actually think this is how Brian and Karen came up with this. This is how an average person would come up with this video. Brian and Karen's minds are an enigma too unfathomable for us mere mortals to comprehend.
There was no way I could have predicted what RGSS stood for. I didn't even try. My thought on seeing a new video from bdg, "I wonder what new fever dream Brian will deliver to me today." That was the correct thought.
it amazes me how well your voices go together. these songs about wizards stealing laptops and meat tubes and eldritch birds all turn into the transcendent experiences due to the beautiful intertwining of your singing voices, conducted masterfully by your incredible composing talents.
the clear living proof of "fail faster" its not about having a great idea, is about having any idea but doing it greatly. BDG can make a song by only using 4 words, creativity and lots of editing and make it awesome
I was sure the roasted garlic summer sausage would start to become sentient and slowly take over, but it appears this is a harmless ditty that will only get stuck in my head for days, and not haunt my dreams. Thanks, BDG!
"I was sure the roasted garlic summer sausage would start to become sentient " There were sentient animals but they ceased to be somewhere before they were turned into sausage
That high note she hits right into the building up choral section is my favorite part of the song. And controversial take, but her solo had the best lyrics.
I found this a little late, but boy did it really hit my soul just right. The message is clear and brilliant, while still being meaningful to everyone. I genuinely teared up. Brava

Karen's singing voice is underrated. She is such a beautiful singer
1:07 is one of the most insane and beautiful harmonies I’ve ever heard and it’s in a song about fucking roasted garlic summer sausage
Me, sobbing, crying, in literal tears, softly whispering "Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage", the skies clear, life is good again.
If only he’d just made this at the start of the pandemic, nothing bad would ever have happened.
Listening to this song made me realize that Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage has the same syllable structure as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and now i can only hope that BDG gets to write a parody cover of this song for great commercial gain.
This is the sound of reality crumbling
It also gives me existential dread, but in a kinda comforting way
Brian, you’ll be happy to know that I work at a planetarium and one of our shows is called “Destination Solar System” and now every time i’m setting up for it i sing “destination solar system” to the tune of “roasted garlic summer sausage”
Brilliant. I am delighted to know that I'm not the only one here suffering from garlic brain rot.
The lyrics in this really speak to me
I liked the part where they talked about the Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage
@Hòmè Ďeçoŕè no thanks, how about some Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage?
TFW you’re backpacking in the summertime, you haven’t had a hot meal in 2 days, you just hiked 3 miles, and you just remembered what’s in your backpack -

@@taaamas7785 What part is that? I feel like I missed it. Can you timestamp it?
When I saw the title and thumbnail I had no idea what this was going to be about. Only bc it’s brian david gilbert I clicked on it. 10/10 Was not disappointed.
We have equal chances of getting a bop or horror when it comes to brian.
Sometimes both

Help in in this comment and I don't like it
With the tension of the first note and the slow zoom, I was fully expecting something on the spectrum from existential dread to full blown unshakable horror and nothing could've prepared me for what this masterpiece actually is
As a Wisconsin native I want to thank you for singing the song of my people.
As a scientist who works in Joshua tree this will forever shape the way I see the landscape thank you Brian and Karen
So that’s what people do in Joshua Tree
I guessed Joshua Tree! Very cool.
You should start a motion to rename it to Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage Park.
I used to visit Joshua Tree during summer trips to my grandparents and, yeah, same 😂
Was just there last week - now this will become my go-to snack for all future visits!
This song is proof that there is no problem in so called "overly repetitive lyrics", only in the song itself. Masterfully done, 5/7 perfect score.
EXACTLY.

How is 5/7 perfect? Wouldn't it be 7/7?
@@Maphteah It's the most unique grading scale ever invented, by our dear brendan sullivan. all we know about it is that 5/7 is a perfect score
The amount of work put into this beautiful video that is basically an advanced shitpost really shows how committed BDG is to the craft
cannot stress enough how often this gets stuck in my head, especially when it's summer sausage season (just before spring)
The live studio audience in my head went absolutely wild when Karen started her solo
Of all the lyrics Brian has ever written, this song truly speaks to me.
Are you a sausage in disguise? 🤔🤔🤔

Omg thank you so much, I got lost half way through, these lyrics are so powerful
if only there were some way one could abbreviate it 🧐 thanks for your hard work op
Thank You!
Can we talk about how gorgeous and creative the melodies and harmonies are? We don’t deserve BDG.
or Karen for that matter
I was trying to figure this out while listening through - is it possible that every repetition of "roasted summer garlic sausage" has a unique melodic structure? It's like the 12-tone series harmonic equivalent of cured meat!
@@jowvial17 Yes, methinks, except for the last of them which is a repetition.
Yes. Came here for this. The melody is haunting and complex and makes me feel so much... So I am now emotionally relating to a roasted garlic summer sausage
Straight up emulating pentatonix Christmas albums, and we must thank them for it
I ran out of roasted garlic summer sausage. Now here I am substituting it with this glorious song
I wholeheartedly agree
Thank you for your comment! I had to rewatch with the captions and it made the video even more hilarious. 😂

Oh, I believe they were saying Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage if that helps!
@@aidanallen1976 It’s not just WHAT they were singing (we know they’re saying Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage!), it’s HOW they were singing it. Subtitles that also have auditory descriptions help with conveying that a lot!

roasted garlic summer sausage sounds like quite a useful midnight gourmand protein
this is a great example of how unimportant lyrics are when your song is an absolute bop
ROASTED GARLIC SUMMER SAUSAGE
It’s the only way to sing about RGSS.
Was..was calling it a banger an intentional sausage pun?
@@MemoryOfGravy it wasn’t, but doesn’t that sort of make it even better?

Definitely some subliminal messaging happening here
I love that I appreciate how beautiful that build up is but then eventually crack up over the fact that this song is a tribute to RGSS.
I've never wanted a Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage more in my life
Okay, did anybody else realize that at the beginning when Brian was singing "Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage," he seemed uncertain, and his smile, or attempt thereof, was forced.

Why have I listened to this so many times already?! Also, that wink at the end gets me every time. Wink back at chya BDG
Everyone, find someone who sounds as loving talking about you as Brian and Karen do singing about roasted garlic summer sausage.
I ain't got nothing on roasted garlic summer sausage.
This happened because Brian was chopping up some sausage for a charcuterie board and began randomly singing to himself as he worked and then Karen joined in and they thought it'd make a fun and silly video, didn't it?
Maybe Brian has had this song idea written in his diary since he was six years old and he's just been waiting YEARS to finally express himself!
This is so plausible that I don't actually think this is how Brian and Karen came up with this. This is how an average person would come up with this video. Brian and Karen's minds are an enigma too unfathomable for us mere mortals to comprehend.
This looks like the kind of guy that would park 185 trucks neatly in a parking lot where it's illegal to park trucks
Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage is a true work of art, I love it
I would use this as an example of perfect musicality over message if RGSS wasn’t the most deeply profound message I have ever experienced
There was no way I could have predicted what RGSS stood for. I didn't even try. My thought on seeing a new video from bdg, "I wonder what new fever dream Brian will deliver to me today." That was the correct thought.
I now sing this literally every time we walk through the butcher section at the supermarket, to my girlfriend's great distress. Thank you.
why does youtube hate this song? it never shows up in my mixes no matter how many times I listen to it
it amazes me how well your voices go together. these songs about wizards stealing laptops and meat tubes and eldritch birds all turn into the transcendent experiences due to the beautiful intertwining of your singing voices, conducted masterfully by your incredible composing talents.

the clear living proof of "fail faster"

I'm surprised Karen is willing to do most of the stuff Brian comes up with
Homie I make entertaining vids as well
That's true love
She probably doesn't and we only see the slightly more sane ideas
Tbh she is as much of a nonsense merchant as he is, for all we know this was her idea
at least 40% of the time she is just as responsible for coming up with the stuff herself
I was sure the roasted garlic summer sausage would start to become sentient and slowly take over, but it appears this is a harmless ditty that will only get stuck in my head for days, and not haunt my dreams. Thanks, BDG!
Every BDG song is so catchy
"I was sure the roasted garlic summer sausage would start to become sentient "
There were sentient animals but they ceased to be somewhere before they were turned into sausage

I have watched this like two dozen times and I do NOT plan on stopping
Brian's working really hard to make a song that no one can find a hidden meaning in.
Roasted Garlic Summer Sausage
Maybe the song is a metaphor?
Karen is so beautiful in this. Her powerful voice, her crescendo, her entire Roasted Garlic Summeer Sausageness. I love it here,
for real i had no idea karen had pipes like that
ending in a comma. bold artistic statement,
That high note she hits right into the building up choral section is my favorite part of the song.
And controversial take, but her solo had the best lyrics.

such a joy when Karen comes in on the lovely harmonies, and always an added bonus when she takes on the melody for a bit too
