random question, but since the 80s are before my time, was this genre actually called fusion jazz? It's definitely not what I think of as either jazz or fusion (which generally means prog-rock / jazz crossover these days) but maybe the term had its own meaning back then. I've only heard this kind of music called city pop, and the next closest genre I can think of would be yacht rock, or maybe lounge(?) but feel free to correct me!

I have no reason to expect either of you to see this but I feel like saying it anyways; when I found Pocket and Thumbnail a few months back they instantly became two of my favorite songs and really helped with my mood, this new collab is incredible and truly brightens my day every time I hear it. Okay, the whole song is unironically amazing, but that transition into the bridge at 2:03 is incredible. The melody, harmonization, and chord selection (Bbmaj9 -> Bbm13) behind "I know you know I'll be there when you feel low" is immaculate, and the transition from the bridge into the last chorus in great too. Plus, Brian's voice fits this genre so well.. This is a legitimate bop, guys.

Seeing my hometown featured in a brian david gilbert video is the most surreal experience of my life
This really captured the essence of that old Japanese city pop summer vibe of artists like Anri, Omega Tribe, Taeko Ohnuki, Kingo Hamada and Hiroshi Sato. The drums were super musical, bass was really well mixed, and so many great melodies and lines through the song were really nice. Absolutely well done by everyone who worked on this

The place where they're dancing in the grass is Angel's Gate Park in San Pedro, my family literally sit in that exact spot for picnics. In the pavilion is the Korean Friendship Bell.
