idk y I’m commenting on this all these years later but I was talking to a friend about how I direct the videos for our band & this was the first one i ever did. It was 2 days after I relapsed and very emotional. On Forest’s first take i cried.
As we were trying to write amo, I refused at first to write about anything to do with my marriage/divorce. It had been a few months & I was happy to be out of a relationship I realised was very toxic. So I felt like writing about it was very insincere as I believed I was in a good place.
What I hadn’t realised is I hadn’t processed what had happened, I hadn’t dealt with the trauma of finding out the person you loved had chosen someone else over you. I hadn’t accepted my part, I hadn’t processed anything. I just ran. & because of this I couldn’t create real, honest, passionate music. I was stuck in a limbo. & my band could only stand and watch as I was trapped in this place.
They knew I needed to process the events & write about them.
This video is inspired by my journey to the realisation that feelings need to be felt. You can’t run away from trauma you can only work through it. Taking that idea this is a story set in a world in a very bleak situation. The ecosystem has collapsed, most of the planets creatures are extinct, and forest is a scientist that holds the key to salvation. But his refusal to process his grief has pretty much wiped his memory and left him empty. I always wanted the details to be interpreted by you guys but I do want to tell you one thing.. listen to the very end of the video… with headphones.

I am a metal head but also a musician and i have mad respect for a band that can create their own sound. Its got the n u metal vibes and but to come from what they were to this. Its not selling out. Its not paying the bills. Its making what you are feeling. And that can move mountaintops.

Song is a banger for sure, or as Oli said - "a bop" Truth be told, I didn't even "hear" this song, even though I'd listened many times, I just never "got it". Then I saw that video someone posted of BMTH doing this live at what looked like a smaller venue, more relaxed with no props, lights or confetti. I noticed the cool rhythm and tge song's "aura" hit me. And hard. The way Oli sang and moved, really got to me, I'd never seen him like that, it waa fascinating. When you understand that this song is about Oli discovering his wife was cheating on him shortly after they got married it transcends itself from vapid criticisms of how BMTH "went pop." I think it's so perfect in all its beautiful pain how Olis reaction to something so tragic was not the anger and rage you'd find in their other songs. It's very real, sometimes something hurts so bad you don't even have the energy to be mad about it.
Never EVER disrespect these guys as far as creativity goes. This is such a fantastic video.

I’m a long time BMTH fan and have been listening to them from the very beginning since I was 14-15. It has been awesome to see the progression in their music through they years, and even though their style has changed substantially there is always something particular about their music that makes it so easy to recognize.
Every song, even the more poppy ones always have that bmth feel that is hard to explain but is always there.
That is the definition of staying true to yourself while allowing yourself to evolve no matter what the majority of the fan base says. I absolutely love it. Keep it up! Can’t wait for parasite eve!

I’ve been a fan of Bring Me since the early days, I still listen to their early albums now. I’m also always sceptical of bands changing their sound, in the case of Bring Me, I’m just astounded. I have never stopped liking their sound, no matter what they produce. I can safely say, In The Dark was my most played song of the last two years, it is simply amazing like the entire album.

As a Muslim, getting a tattoo is forbidden in Islam, so instead I bought the hoodie with the umbrella and I still wear it nowadays. But I understand you because I went through a lot of traumatic experiences too, and I also suffered from Islamophobia when I was in middle school in France (back in 2015 and stuff). Even I hated myself, but thank goodness these guys were there. So your tattoo and my hoody have the same meaning, it seems. Have a phenomenal day, mate, and carry on.👍

From Chelsea Smile to in the dark... this has been an wonderful journey. I'm grateful to still be alive for these moments.
Yes, they've changed so much, but it doesn't mean they're not good anymore. Deep down they still having their original vibe, you can notice it from the lyrics. Amo is clearly not for everybody, it feels kinda personal, so if you like it or not it does not define its quality.
*And, I'm so proud of the whole band for converting their thoughts into art, specially from Oli for the creativity behind this video*
the amount of talent artists like oli possess is incredible yet they're constantly looked over because art isn't appreciated until it's validated by everyone around them. pretty sad, honestly.
I'm actually really happy to see how many other artists were involved in the making of this video. The Fact that Oli also directed and edited it by himself is truly amazing and inspiring.
I honestly couldn't care less about the whole "ugh, they can't settle for one genre, I want era xyz back, I'll hate everything else" stuff. They do a great job nontheless and I'm going to cherish them just as the artists they are, because this is all that matters in the end.

For everyone who’s asking what the Japanese “Arc” means, it’s simply the name of the lab doing tests as we see at 2:17 the camera/binoculars are labeled “Arc-Hive.” Seems like the video is portraying our memory’s and how we almost process them if you will

Okay so from the comments and studying the video and listening to this a million times because it's awesome I think that:
Forest had a wife and child. Forest was driving his daughter when they were in an accident which left his lower body paralyzed and killed his daughter. After the accident Forest's wife likely blamed him for their daughter's death and cheated on him with the man we see in the video over and over depicted with flames / menacing look. She left him which broke him to the point where (in whatever future we are in) it was necessary to try extreme mind altering experiments in an attempt to bring him back from the edge. Most of the video we see of him is a simulation where he's being forced to confront and visualize the memories and thoughts that are haunting him. He's eventually able to stand up in the simulation which is impossible for him in the real world, but symbolizes that he's ready to move on and overcome the tragedy he's endured.
That's my guess anyway.

Bmth got me into heavy music at a young age when I heard pray for plagues and I love the heavy stuff but no matter how different each album is the attention that the band gives to creating music no matter the genre shift is amazing and they can’t miss. It’s still bmth but we all grow. I would love the death core again but I’m just glad it’s still bmth

Right!! He's an Iconic actor!! I like the musicality of the song. I respect that they used Mr. Whitaker as the focal point of the video.
Anyone who dogs on any part of BMTHs career is simply being short-sided. There is literally nothing cringe-worthy about their music or any period within it. The very idea that they brought solid metal riffs into pop music but at the same time paying absolutely homage to the full span of their career is astounding and versatile as hell. Their hooks are purely flawless and catchy as a motherfucker.
As a 35 year old fan of them since their first album, I have loved every chapter of their career. And while I will admit that when they went to pop I also missed older days of heavier bass and guitar and drums, I've always got to confess that they know music and how to make it catchy. And there is simply no arguing that at all, in my opinion. Long live BMTH
it's just that the reason we listen to them is because it was metal. I'm not knocking bmth but it's just not what it used to be. it sounds like they're trying to get on the radio Instead of making the music because they love making music.

Love this song. BMTH is such an amazing band. They can do pretty much any kind of music and nail it.
Since in the dark was released, I have interpreted the lyrics of this song as a message to Hannah and her supposed cheating on Oli. This was even clearer in my head with this video, looks like if it refers to someone in a "brainwashing machine" reviewing several times something extremely painful (in this case, the betrayal, actually is looks like some scenes refer to it), although with some moments of joy (represented by the fireworks - "trying to figure out somehow, nothing of this is real, no") and trying to erase it from its mind. The message of this video is very deep and can be interpreted in many ways. BMTH never disappoints.

Fell out of touch with BMTH for the last few years, but started exploring their content again. Found this one almost immediately, and it perfectly describes a situation I just went through. The amazing thing is it didn't hurt listening to this. It actually felt very healing and freeing. Now I remember why I have always loved this group 💜
