Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel and to a battle of the century. The A380 versus the Boeing 747. Who to better do this battle with my dear friend and colleague pilot Alexander, who has been flying the A380 for the past year.
Here a few facts about both planes from Wikipedia โ€ฆ
    The Airbus A380
The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by European manufacturer Airbus.[6][7] It is the world's largest passenger airliner, and the airports at which it operates have upgraded facilities to accommodate it. It was initially named Airbus A3XX and designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market. The A380 made its first flight on 27 April 2005 and entered commercial service on 25 October 2007 with Singapore Airlines. An improved version, the A380plus, is under development.
The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the fuselage; it is narrower than the lower deck but remains comparable to the width of other wide-body aircraft. This gives the A380-800's cabin 550 square metres (5,920 sq ft) of usable floor space,[8] 40% more than the next largest airliner, the Boeing 747-8,[9] and provides seating for 525 people in a typical three-class configuration or up to 853 people in an all-economy class configuration. The A380-800 has a design range of 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km), serving the fourth- and seventh-longest non-stop scheduled flights in the world, and a cruising speed of Mach 0.85 (about 900 km/h, 560 mph or 490 kt at cruising altitude).
As of July 2018, Airbus had received 331 firm orders and delivered 229 aircraft; Emirates is the biggest A380 customer with 162 ordered of which 104 have been delivered
    Boeing 747
The Boeing 747 is an American wide-body commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, "Jumbo Jet". Its distinctive hump upper deck along the forward part of the aircraft has made it one of the most recognizable aircraft, and it was the first wide-body airplane produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the United States, the 747 was originally envisioned to have 150 percent greater capacity than the Boeing 707, a common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.
The four-engine 747 uses a double-deck configuration for part of its length and is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. Boeing designed the 747's hump-like upper deck to serve as a first-class lounge or extra seating, and to allow the aircraft to be easily converted to a cargo carrier by removing seats and installing a front cargo door. Boeing expected supersonic airliners-the development of which was announced in the early 1960s-to render the 747 and other subsonic airliners obsolete, while the demand for subsonic cargo aircraft would remain robust well into the future. Though the 747 was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold, it exceeded critics' expectations with production surpassing 1,000 in 1993. By July 2018, 1,546 aircraft had been built, with 22 of the 747-8 variants remaining on order.

Honestly thought the A380 is the first plane that I've flown that made me feel "this is the next generation". Sure the main cabin (in peasant economy class) felt like a market (sooo many people), but it felt *SOLID*.
The upper deck (still economy class) was quiet - really comfortable!
Only downside was it felt a bit... dirty, possibly because it's difficult to clean such a huge cabin space properly between flights...
That being said I still feel the most comfortable flight I've been on was on the A350 XWB :)

MCAS is still not reliable tho it was only added so they wouldnt need to make the plane higher to fit the engines instead they put engines a bit forward and upward causing changes in aerodtnamics which required either re-training pilots or boeing's solution MCAS.
But guess what made Lion air's 737 max 8 crash? Ofc MCAS... it made the plane push nose down because ofc the sensors even tho the plane was perfectly horizontal.

Lots of fun from you guys. I agree, both planes are master-pieces of aero-engineering, beautiful, wonderful planes. I have been fortunate enough to have flown in both of them. My first long flight was in a 747 at the time the biggest plane in the sky, nowadays I get the same buzz flying in the A380, the new big one. I like viewing the webcam looking down along the fuselage on take off and landing, quite a novelty when first introduced. But of course on long-haul flights what the passenger wants is a reassuring smooth aircraft with a good air pressurized and air-conditioned interior.

@@TenorCantusFirmus The Boeing engineers gave this feature to B747 because they thought that supersonic flights were going to take over everything. They had already failed their B2707 so they could not let this thing fail again. Thus they put this iconic bump on B747 to hope that once it failed the passenger transportation this model could still survive as a cargo lifter. The truth is that the failed situation of B747 comes 50 years after the first model had been released, but that iconic hump saves it again.

@@TenorCantusFirmus That was the initial plan all along and it payed off. Airbus were kind of late with A380 to a market that were ending which Boeing realized. Airbus benefit is however that they started at a market there fuel efficiency were becoming more important and the height of the plane wasn't as a big of a deal, so they built airplanes with longer landing gears so that they could increase engine size in future models. In answer to A320neo, Boeing needed bigger engines to compete to it, but they don't have the ground clearance so they needed to move the engine forward and up... and due to aviation laws they had to work around long training times for Boeing pilots as that wouldn't be able to compete to A320neo, so they needed MCAS, which wasn't a problem by it's own' the problem was that it wasn't mention in the pilots training and therefore didn't know how to turn it off. That's the biggest flaw. The pilots had a lot of time in all incidents to turn it off if they just knew how.

The only reason that some A380 are being decommissioned alongside the 747 is due to the fact that it is cheaper and more efficient for airlines to fly twin engined aircraft such as the A350 and 787. Back when the 747 was produced this wouldnโ€™t have been the case as twin engined aircraft did not have the range capable enough to do the distance the 747 could.

5:20 Joe could've said "less tires to check for punctures and also less points of failure" for a point.

The two 1st ones do carry bigger cargo than the Antonov inside. Sure they don't carry as much weigh tho. Also there's more Belugas than the other two combined (5 older Belugas, 3 new Beluga XLs)

I must always be partial to the boeing, as that is what my father, for the most part, has mostly flown. But always, safety is the most important factor. And I for one, forever wish you all, no matter the model, a safe and happy flight
