- Short throw shifter. In this video I show you how a short shifter works and how to install one in your car. I also compare the difference between a stock shifter and an aftermarket short throw shifter so you can see the drastic improvement in the DriftStang!

Najir Moore same :D my dad is a car mechanic i ordered all fun mods to my car and spend week installin all that... my dad said who installed you that?? i said i did it... he was like What!?
508 how do you keep up in modern traffic?
508 thinking about buying one but don’t wanna have to rev to 3,000 to keep up
You make people feel they're so involved in ur videos by saying good everytime u removed a bolt for example haha
what got me hooked on his videos is he was working on his truck front end (i think) and he was like now tighten the bolt, then he was like that's good when he got it tight enough
What I like about this build is that you didn't destroyed the interior to look "racecar" like most people do, you keep everything clean and original looking, love it!
He'll have to remove or cut something to get the hydraulic hand brake installed correctly.
Lucas Sobrinho they dont destroy it , they remove all the plastic parts , the a/c and stuff like that so it weighs less
DFW Dashcam for sure, but I think he'll do more "original looking"
Miguel M Silva I know, but is nice to see something different tho, and he still can use the car daily if he wants or need
Lucas Sobrinho he is getting bucket seats soon and I can't wait

I've been building race cars,"street" cars,lowriders,trucks,bikes..you name it for over 20yrs and I gotta say,for all those supposed diy car channels yours is by far the best for guys and girls who are just starting out. From your detailing tips to stuff like this shifter install you make it easy for ppl to understand what to do and not do and you don't throw out all kinds of wrong advice. I hope you go more in depth with the aftermarket in the future. Keep up the good work Chris, great job so far!.
Btw if you leave off the little rubber pad it gives you the feel of a more positive shift.
Thanks a lot Bob! I appreciate your feedback with your 20yrs of experience in the field!
ChrisFix no problem man,I give credit where credit is due
Bob Falfa I agree, he does pretty good in all these. I used to do the same type of vids years back. But were a visual of factory manuals.
I have officially watched every single video you’ve ever posted now! What a great channel. Even though much of the content was very basic and I’ve done it before as a mechanic, I still enjoyed the detailed tips and instructions. You’ve done a phenomenal job with this channel. Great job!

@@ollieledgerton9339 a mustant can be any type of car with the right tuning and setup. But man, that steering wheel needs to go!
Why does it look like ATF in your manual trans? Ford thing?
PhantasmAMX yeah Ford thing my friends manual focus uses atf.

Thanks! I like the look to! Once I lower it, it will look even more amazing!

Problem is there's a lot of controversy on the proper way to clean it and where you got some people who will tell you you can just spray where ever, and others saying no and that there are certain components you shouldn't get wet. I've tried looking and it's nothing but back-and-forth arguments.
Subwoofer everything can get cleaned except the air filter but the argument is if something to easy to break if u put to much pressure on it
ChrisFix, the type of guy to use tread locker on his shoe laces(no offence, bro)

You ever had a differential lock pin bolt come out on the highway? what about a brake caliper come loose? I have and now I threadlock everything suspension or driveline (both of these were properly torqued to spec, and came loose a few hundred to a thousand miles later)

This is one of the things I always wanted to do and still haven't done. No off the shelf specific shifter for my car but an EF Civic/CRX one works from memory - I planned to do this when I changed the clutch which is still good. Excellent point with springs mine are stuffed. Also I suggest it is a good to check the shifter arm bushes under the car where it meets the gearbox, if its split/worn it increases movement and if its gone it feels loose and will clunk every time you shift and it will vibrate under the car
Hearing that engine while you're shifting gives me goosebumps. I wish my Ranger sounded like that.

ty so much for this video! i bought a 1996 mustang gt and remembered you had made a whole serie on how to modify this car and today i finally installed my pro 5.0 short throw shifter and as a person who never worked too much on his car except the really basic maintenance things, your video helped me so much. i followed your video step by step and everything was super easy to do. funny enough, i broke my dollar store rachet trying to unbolt the same bolt you had issue with😂. after my brother brought more tools, we finished the installation and the improvement it gives was reallly worth it! ❤

Half the reason I’ve been looking at late 90’s and early 00’s Mustangs are because of you, Chris. I can only hope to be as good with cars as you
Another thing to consider when installing a short throw shifter, is that you need to make sure the force to switch gears aren't great, because with a short throw shifter, you get less leverage, and if the gearbox is of a "stiff" type with a strong detent, it can be too difficult to get it into and out of gear. I don't know if the detent in gearboxes are adjustable, but that could be a video you could host - "How to adjust your manual gearbox".
I have looked at several videos on this topic. I like yours best because you do a better job explaining the benefits of your improvement. Also your instructions are clear throughout. Great job Chris!

Just got my dads 2002 Mustang and I’m doing most things you’ve done on yours. Two years that I’ve been waiting and saving, now i can complete my goal lol
My friends hate me becuase i want to torque pretty much every bolt. :P
I throw out torque specs and service manuals. I just "feel" them out. Crank those head bolts til they barely slip, then back them off a tad. No tightening sequence needed, the oil leftover in the thread holes balances the bolts out.
dreamrealitysyndrome When it comes to moving parts, the engine or such things as the brakes and the supenstion. Then i torque it after the specs. Since i only do it as a hobby on my own car and i have a bad habit when it comes to over tigthening. :D
Morten Nielsen I have a friend like that. I don't mind it, in fact I promote it.
Just had a friend who put on his winter tires without torpue then down after, i was chocked! xD
The only things where it's really critical to get the torque right is internal engine/tranny bolts, wheel bearings, and lugs. Not getting those right can cause premature wear or problems down the line. After doing it awhile, you get a feel for lugs and axles, but even the most professional techs I know torque stuff in the block unless they do rebuilds for a living and have the feel down.
This guy should open his own shop idk if he has one or not but this guys is a god mechanic
