    Just a safety warning, some vehicles have a capacitor for the airbag circuit that can hold voltage for up to 30 minutes after the battery is disconnected. Don't want anybody getting killed from an unintended airbag deployment 👍 Always follow manufacturer specified steps for removing your airbag

      But it takes a huge chunk off something which probably wasn't very expensive to start out with. Sounds like tax laws are more complex in the US, ours are pretty simple, here I'd get around 45% of the cost of a non-asset/amortized business expense off my tax bill - 30% of earnings and 15% off consumer taxes (GST) - plus there are some other bits and pieces like accident compensation that come off wages that would make it a little more than this.

    Hey Chris an easy way to reverse engineer that steering wheel cover is with the old one. Since yours came off in an easy manner if you add a little bit of steam to the old on and flatten it on you can actually just trace the old covers pattern onto the new material and it will have an even tighter fit to the wheel. Also for the seam when you stitch both ends together instead of knotching out in the rubber on the wheel if you press the seam open it will lay flush without having to remove any rubber. You can usually press a seam open with an iron. If the material you are working with should not be ironed directly use a low heat setting on an Iron and a piece of cotton cloth on top the press it open. This step does take a little more effort however the front stitching where the seam is will look really smooth and clean with the added work. If you ever tackle any more upholstery just remember to press open your seams after you sew them. This just helps all the seams to lay flat and flush, if you are doing a top stitch on anything you can also top stitch after you press the seam and this will help the material look super clean and flush. Enjoy :D

    I'm impressed that you did the leather cover from scratch. I used Loncky brand pre-cut leather steering wheel cover bought from Amazon. Good reviews, good quality, vehicle-specific options with holes. In the reviews, people post how long it took them to do this so it was a challenge. It took me about 8 hrs to do mine and I tried with steering wheel off but quickly reinstalled it because I couldn't get the right leverage for this. The choice is yours as to the pattern of stitching but I used a single needle method running all one way, then worked my way back.

      if your steering wheel is off you should look at the tie rods/ tie rod ends and other suspension components, you may also want to see about having the vehicle aligned. i recommend shops like Firestone complete auto care that offer lifetime alignments. so that if you ever have the problem again you don't have to pay again. alignments can be expensive depending on the area and type of vehicle.

    Awesome video like always!
    I noticed that when you peeled off the old leather from the steering wheel, it looked like it had been glued all underneath before they stitched it closed. Wouldn't it have also been a good idea to add glue all around in the inside of the new leather just so that later down the road it doesn't become loose?

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  7 년 전 +8

      The glue was for the rubber. The glue I used on the spokes is plenty to "hold it in place" but in reality, the stitches hold it in place. That thing isnt budging!
