you imply that the variations in regional Irish accents has something to do with Ireland being split into โ€œtwo countriesโ€ -
It is common knowledge that the regional accents with all their โ€˜variations and complicationsโ€™ (as you put it) predate this 100 year old partition and were long established before our 32 county island was split by the British [colonialists] into the โ€œ6 Countiesโ€/Northern Ireland and the Republicโ€™s current 26 counties

Just fyi when we Irish speak Gaelic thatโ€™s when we are speaking Irish - when we Irish speak english itโ€™s Hiberno-English โ€ฆ. Not [as you say] โ€œIrishโ€.

@williamwallace4924 I don't see your point. We're a small fish. Our tactics have always been guerrilla warfare. We would never win a conventional war, so little point in investing in a huge military. And like, who would invade Ireland?

Sigh! The English spoken in Ireland is called Hiberno-English, not Irish English.
What exactly does โ€˜gurdyโ€™ mean? The text said โ€œGardaรญโ€ which is obviously pronounced โ€˜GAR-DEEโ€™.
Nope, most Irish people pronounce โ€˜thโ€™ as [ _insert drumroll_ ] โ€˜THโ€™. Fancy that!!
