It is common knowledge that the regional accents with all their โvariations and complicationsโ (as you put it) predate this 100 year old partition and were long established before our 32 county island was split by the British [colonialists] into the โ6 Countiesโ/Northern Ireland and the Republicโs current 26 counties
Just fyi when we Irish speak Gaelic thatโs when we are speaking Irish - when we Irish speak english itโs Hiberno-English โฆ. Not [as you say] โIrishโ.
