Seriously, in 5 of 16 games, they gave up a MINIMUM of 31 points. I do not see how that qualifies as an elite defense. In the post season, they basically gifted Eli a SB MVP, but most of the time, they were terrible. Oh, yeah, and 4 of those 5 games were against teams that didn't score more than 20 points against the Giants in the playoffs.... And that makes Eli a superstar? We "forget how great he was" because he was mediocre or worse WAY MORE TIMES than he was "great" And we know those SB MVPs were given to him. He played okay, and had two magical passes at the end of the games. His D kept the best offense in NFL history at the time (07 Pats) to 14 points. @@AAAA-nv5cf No problem. Facts are eternal.
Top 10 all time in yards, completion, and TDs? That really sounds great doesn't it? In fact, at the end of 2018, I took the draft class of 2004 and they (Eli, Rothlisberger, and Rivers) were all 6th, 7th, and 8th all time for yards and TDs.
      Yards:
      BR 56194
      RM 55981 (-213)
      PR 54656 (-1538)
      TDs:
      PR 374
      BR 363 (-11)
      EM 360 (-14)
Yep, in a very closely knit group since they all played 15 years at the time. But, let's take in consideration one more stat. No, no interceptions. Yes, we all know how that would end. No, let's factor in attempts.
      Attempts:
      EM 7972
      BR 7168 (-804)
      PR 7000 (-972)
Now, we get to the heart of the matter. Eli needed 804 more attempts to have fewer yards and fewer TDs than BR and 974 more attempts to not have as many TDs and slightly more yards. That is nearly two more full seasons worth of attempts to not even have their totals. More perspective: Once you figure out his yards/attempt and TDs per attempt, he is no longer top 10 all time. In fact, he falls to:
Yards/attempt: #91 (Tied with : Andy Dalton, Brian Griese, and BEHIND: Jay Cutler, Derek Carr, Marc Bulger, Chad Pennington, Matthew Stafford, Carson Palmer, Ryan Tannehill, Baker Mayfield, Daunte Culpupper, and Trent Green)
TDs/attempt: #72 (Tied with: Andy Dalton, Carson Wendz, and BEHIND: Jay Cutler Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Daunte Culpepper, Baker Mayfield, Jameis Winston)
Basically behind or tied with a bunch of guys that no one would remotely think of putting in the HoF.
4 Pro bowls? That's a good point for 16 years? Geez, Romo had 4 pro bowl (and a second string all pro) in only 8 complete years.
Never an MVP. In fact, never in consideration for it. Sure, he was nominated in 2011, but just because he was in the playoffs. Other non-playoff QBs had better a better season. In fact, he was never even the best QB in the NFC East.
2 Rings? He was literally carried by the defense. In 2007, Romo, Favre, and Brady (All QBs that destroyed the Giants defense in the regular season to an average of 35 points per game) were all having one of their worst games of the year (averaged 17 points in the playoffs) and Eli still needed multiple lucky plays to pull out a win. Same thing in 2011 vs Packers (although not a close game that one time) and Brady again. Please tell me how that makes Eli an MVP. Someone on the defense should have received it.
Ever re-watch the 2007 season SB? In the six plays leading up the the "Helmet Catch", Eli tried to give the game away in 5 of 6 plays. Two high and incompletes into double coverage (Aikman even comments that he lucky to still have the ball), a drastically underthrown 3rd down that could have easily converted. Jacobs bails the Giants out by Inches. Eli scrambles and caught from behind, fumbling the ball, and recovering between his legs. Then an uncontested dropped interception. That was the MVP?!?!??!
BTW, the are his only good points and now I have shown how they really aren't. So, while the push to put him in the Hall is over in this conversation, I haven't even begun to warm up? Want some more? BTW, before coming back and tell me how stupid or hating I am, please show me where I'm wrong. This is nothing but 100% fact. If it sounds like hate to you, then you are just in denial. The facts show that Eli was lucky and should never be in the Hall of Fame.

But, let's really drive the lucky point home. What did Favre, Brady, and Romo (x2) do to the Giants defense in the 2007 regular season? An average of 38 points. And then in the playoffs, none of them had over 20 and that was because of Eli? Please explain. In fact, Eli has never beaten a playoff team that scored more than 20 points.

Eli literally had multiple lucky breaks each game to barely win against QBs that were having one of their worst games of the year. Does that sounds like a HoF QB to you?
And you do realize that Eli has been to the playoffs more than 2007 and 2011, right? Let's summarize those two "SB runs". 4 playoffs, 4 games, 4 losses, 3 crushing defeats, 1 shutout, a combined 3 TDs (less than 1 per game), 7 ints (almost 2 per game), 1 game over 169 yards, and a 54 passer rating. Statistically, he is NOT a HOF'er.
    116-116 record
    60% completion rate
    362 TD to 241 INT (1.5/1 ratio)
    241 YPG
    84.1 QB rating
    For comparison's sake...
    Tony Romo's career stats:
    65% completion rate
    78-49 record
    248 TD to 117 INT (2.1/1 ratio)
254 YPG (if you don't count 2016 where he played 1 game as a back up and passed 29 yards)
    97 QB rating
The difference in the conversation is that Eli was an iron man and won the super bowl (albeit twice). The first year they won they ended a Patriots run that seemed impossible. Which was impressive. But he didn't light it up... The defense shut down, what might have been, the greatest offence in NFL history.
In 2007 they won 4 playoff games, yes 3 were on the road. But, Eli's completion percentage was 60% and he averaged 214 YPG. Not impressive.
In 2011 they won 4 playoff games. Eli's completion percentage was 65% and he averaged 305 YPG. That is a way better post season! But it was THE only one he ever had.
The other 4 years he made the playoffs, he lost the first game they played!! 6 playoff runs in 16 years is rough.
He has had 5 losing records in 16 years (not counting year 1 and this current year). He has finished 8-8 twice and 9-7 twice. Leaving him only 5 good season of 10 or more wins.
    Best stats:
12 wins (2008) - exited first round of the playoffs
    387 completions (2015)
    66% completion rate (2018)
    35 TD's (2015)
    8 years of 15+ INT's
    308 YPG (2011)
    93.6 QB rating (2015)
If you combine all of those stats that makes 1 good year. But those are over the course of a career.
To me, HOF means consistency. Other than reliability, Eli was not consistent. He is/was an above average talent who made enough good plays at the right time to win the super bowl. Respect for ending an 18-0 season. Respect for beating them again in 2011. But HOF means best of the best. He was good. NOT great.

I think Eli Manning should be an example for future hall of fame quarterbacks. Right now it seems like HoF contention is based heavily on career stats and records. But when you go in depth on the career of Eli Manning you will find a guy who was extremely tough and competitive and clutch and many traits that coaches would love to have for their franchise but those won’t show up on the stats sheet. Maybe the iron man stat will be there but if everybody could truly see these types of things then Eli would be an easy first ballot candidate imo

What we don't see are the many pre-game preparation speeches that Eli gave to his team to ensure that they were on the same page; offense, *and* defense. We people don't understand is that it takes a special individual to lead his team to a Super Bowl appearance, let alone win it.
