Many years ago Andrew went to Indian, Alaska to Indian Valley meats to try “moose nose jelly” made by my grandfather and the happiness it brought him for Andrew and the show to come see him was unimaginable. He couldn’t wipe a smile off his face for months. He died in 2020 while I was on my way to Afghanistan and if he went through some of his happiest moments in his life as he took his last breath, I would bet that his time with Andrew was pretty up there. Thank you Andrew

Anyways, if it's the Soviet famine, it makes sense... the US never officially acknowledged it as a thing. I lived near a lot of dairys and it used to anger me to see gallons and gallons of milk dumped because farmers have to continue milking their cows, but the state told them they could only sell so much of it to keep prices where they wanted it.

@@mykalbutler9619 Andrew battled with addiction for quite sometime. He actually tried to commit suicide because he was so lost and at the bottom... You've gotta hear his story, it's truly inspiring to see where he came from to where he is today.
This is the first Hot Ones that actually made ME cry. It seems so bonkers to me that we as a species follow the example of some of the most disconnected, self-aggrandizing, arrogant and entitled people when there're thoughtful solutions to real problems presented by wise and caring people. I can hear in Andrew's voice a sort of resigned acceptance that people won't internalize the information he's giving, that he sees what's coming and knows we won't fix it, but he and many like him are going to keep giving us the tools. I admire him and the ways in which he uses his energy, time and passion. I hope more people start following his example.
There's definitely room for improvement. But I don't see a good solution if we want our food "globalized." What the food industry has become is because "WE" demanded it. Our favorite foods EVERYWHERE, ANYTIME, and AFFORDABLE. It's an impossible task any way you slice and try to fix it.
You make it "healthy and organic" and now it costs to much and isn't plentiful enough. You make it cheap and available and now it's GMO'd and "not healthy" for you etc etc.

So cool to hear Andrew talk about Adam and Anthony that way. I used to watch all their shows often on the Travel Channel. All three were great entertainers.

Andrew eating wings like they’re mild and the entire wing. This dude is the realest I’ve ever seen on the show just to be honest.
I love the way Andrew deconstructed the various flavors for each sauce and appreciates the subtle notes of each ingredient.
Honestly, I wish we could get a long video where some chefs like him get invited back not for an interview but for a review of each of the sauces.
Alton Brown did the same thing, and even ranked the sauces from best to worst.
This might sound weird but as a kid Andrew basically taught me how to speak. He speaks so eloquently, so laterally, he makes analogies and is expressive in a way that i think so many people can learn from. I’m so thankful to have been at that age watching him and Anthony Bourdain with my parents.
I love that he grabs each bottle, reads and moves it over. Visually great for us as well.

Bizarre foods taught me about how to love all cultures and all people's no matter what. It fostered a curiosity and a sense of adventure in me that still drives me to this day. Andrew is one of my idols and I'm so happy to see him on this show!
Andrew gave us an in depth of all the sauces that no one else ever does, now I know how they all taste without ever tasting them. Grew up with Andrew, Anthony (rest in peace) and Adam. Miss those days.
This man, along with Bourdain and Adam Richman, were such a big part of my life growing up. Being able to see them travel the world and visit places I could only dream was always a treat. Travel Channel was pretty much the only reason to have cable back in the day for me. Zimmern is just a genuine and real guy. This was absolutely an all time classic episode.

I have loved Andrew for years and years. His show made me so happy to "travel" the world with him. Andrew having chocolate milk as his safety drink was so wholesome to me.
i LOVE Andrew Zimmern because he is so unpretentious. He just seems to be himself 100% of the time, in the vein of Anthony Bourdain.
I think for travel food shows like theirs we dont want to see a character we really do want to see a normal guy like us being honest in his reactions to these bizarre things hes encountering

One of the best interviews on this show. Zimmern really made it easy for Sean and provided some great perspectives about the food world.
Andrew is a personal hero of mine. I had a lot of sick days as a kid for many reasons, and it hips showp always made me smile no matter how bad I felt or how lonely I was.
I could listen to AZ talk about food all day. He's so intelligent and well spoken. Even the wings of death he didn't skip a beat!

This one goes up in the Hall of Fame. Raise this one to the rafters and retire it as one of the best. Great questions, fantastic answers, and more insight actually than what we have gotten in a long time from what the sauces and the flavors behind them taste like. Also, one of most wholesome and heartfelt episodes to date. Outstanding and well done. I know he isn't the biggest celebrity on the planet but man I hope a lot of people catch this episode.

I agree. Hall of famer. Took every wing down like a champ, was really unfazed by the bomb. I have a culver right up the street from me, and I have been in Phoenix Arizona for one year. Never went there, because I know that it’s so calorie inducing… But I agree with him that shake shack is one of the best fast foods although pricey, I cannot wait to go try culvers.

Bizarre Foods is my all-time favorite food show. I haven't been lucky enough to see an episode in a while but the ones I have seen really stuck with me.
Not only was the show great but Andrew's personality and genuineness brought a certain quality that couldn't be matched by anyone.
I just adore andrew. His show was and always will be my all time favorite travel show and hes such an intelligent and open minded guy.

Andrew is the reason I discovered fish sauce. And his philosophy of discovering and finding new things has been a part of my life before I new him, and even more so after I watch the show What a class act!
Learn something new everyday. I never knew that he went through a period in his life where he was addicted and homeless. Proud of what he has going on today! Kudos! And he took those wings down like a champ!💪🏽 I also love how he is an advocate for feeding America! I really enjoyed this episode!

Andrew Zimmern changed my life! I use to be a kid with a picky apatite, until I watched Bizarre Foods! And his lesson and message "Try everything at least twice" STUCK with me! Now I am known by my friends as an Adventurous Foodie, who will try any food, no matter how strange, no matter it's culture of origin, or strange ingredients!! And I've expanded my life and love of food beyond what I ever thought possible, all because I ALWAYS Try it twice! First to meet it, the second to understand it!

Same. He’s my hero in a way. Used to be a picky eater who wouldn’t even eat tomato. Thanks to him, I’m now more open to trying things. There’s still food I don’t like, but I’m way more adventurous with cuisine.
ever since I watched his show, I'm never afraid of trying new cuisine(on the contrary I actually like trying unfamiliar food). I often asked by people when I travel, do you eat this or would you try that ?. My reply always: if its edible, i have no problem trying that

I've always had massive respect for Andrew Zimmern, he's always so polite on bizzare foods. No matter how foul, he always takes a second bite, says thank you, and always makes sure he doesn't upset his hosts. He's always conscious of the fact that people might be sharing more food than they get in a week. What a good person.

Anthony Bourdain will forever be my favorite chef of all time. He genuinely loved food n so does Andrew. They enjoyed preparing it,getting to know cultures n the people of different cultures,showed great respect to the art n people n genuinely care about the world. Him and Bourdain will forever have a special place in my heart,they made me even more of a foodie n to this day I still binge their shows.

Andrew is someone I’d love to have in my friend group. He is a treasure trove of information and wisdom, and I’d love to sit and talk with him for hours. I loved this episode. That being said, the episode with Gordon Ramsay is still the most entertaining by far!

Nice to see a guest that has a good sense of taste and pick out the different ingredients in each sauce. I really enjoyed this episode.
I got to meet Andrew Zimmern when he came to the Big Island of Hawaii to film at Miloli’i. I was a pre-teen at the time, and got to talk to him face-to-face. He really liked me, we bonded over our love of raising chickens, and when he finished writing his book, he sent me an autographed copy that says “Stay cool Colby!”
Such a great guy, with a passion for food and culture.
This man’s love for Culver’s and the background music as he was explaining it was so wholesome. I love how intelligent he is with food and describing it.

I'm always thankful for a guest who talks about the sauces a bit. I will almost certainly never try anything past, like, number 3 or 4, but hearing the flavor descriptions of things is nice. Gotta respect the craft of making these sauces. Also, this entire episode was a delight.
I cooked a multi course meal for Andrew, before he shot an episode of Bizarre Foods in the restaurant where I worked made him cicadas. He was super gracious. I had cooked for many famous chefs at that point and he was the first to stop by the kitchen and thank us lowly line cooks personally.

oh yeah i am way more open minded after seeing Bizarre Foods, i wasnt picky per se but i wouldnt have been as open before seeing him eat those foods and enjoy them. well MOST of them that is.
Him and Anthony really shaped my teens and young adult life. Sadly I haven't been able to travel out of country, but have done solo cross country trips a couple of times.

This was a great episode! Andrew is such a genius in his own right. Opinions will be but he's so well spoken and colorful! He has some things to teach others, not learn. That's the type of ppl I try to surround myself with. Awesome. He did great BUT we all know the star of the show, SEAN!!!!
