Rainforest sounds - Thunderstorm approaching in Central Africa

  • On the border between R Congo and Gabon there is an impressive expanse of wild savanna rainforest. The patches of trees create small shaded havens for wildlife, but they don't completely obstruct the soundscape as ancient rainforests will do. You can hear birdsong and insect calls from quite far away. When you add loud sources like thunder to the mix, you can clearly get a sense for the space in which this recording was captured.
    This nature, wildlife and weather soundscape evolves over the two hours of the recording, from distant thunder rumbling to a couple of rain showers and then calmer ambience with birdsong and insects. Soft wind picks up here and there but it stops soon thereafter. More importantly, there is no man-made sound that reaches the microphone. This is almost unheard of in the "developed" world where distant road/air traffic, city noise, industry sounds are a mainstay wherever you would go. Recorded with Sennheiser DMS and Sound Devices 633 in 2018. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Feel free to support me by:

    Thank you so much for sharing your recordings with the world. I work from a home office and have trouble concentrating, but listening to ambient nature sounds helps immensely! I have not found any other source on the Internet that compares to your soundscapes for quality and variety. Your recordings have also inspired me to make my own, I completed my first recording recently on my parents' rural property where I grew up. When I got home and listened to the recording, the sense of place those specific sounds created brought me to tears. Thank you again for what you're sharing here, you're enriching lives with your work.

    Hey George, I have been appreciating your recordings quite bit much of late, and then this sound recording hit a home run. Are you able to elaborate which part of the Gabon, R Congo border this is? I have a very fond memory of taking the Mbomo - Onene road and came across some spectacular soundscapes. thanks for sharing these audios 🙏🏼

      My pleasure Liam. This was recorded North of Okondja in Gabon, not too far from the places you mentioned.

    It's better Sennheiser MKH 416 or MKH 8060?

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  3 년 전

      That depends on many factors, but I prefer my 8060 because of smaller size, lower weight and less self noise.
