- Givēon's last two years are a lot like the early-00s Lakers: wins after wins after wins. First was that feature on Drake’s “Chicago Freestyle.” Then he dropped his ‘Take Time’ and ‘When It’s All Said and Done’ EPs, collectively clocking a 100 million streams. That was enough to earn him a Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2021 invite. Next, “Heartbreak Anniversary” topped the R&B charts. If you didn’t know him by then, his feature on Biebs' “Peaches” did the trick - to the tune of more than a billion streams. Now the 27-year-old is our latest LIFT artist. Last month we linked up with the baritone singer just a few LA freeway exits north of his Long Beach hometown. This live performance of Heartbreak aniversary is clearly much better than the original version for me. This version has a sweetness with the pain of the lyrics. Original has too much sadness in it for me. I need more sweetness in my sad life 🥺

I agree, I hate that most producers autotune even phenomenal singers to make them too perfect. I know some singers now use filters when they perform live too so I’m always a little skeptical, but you can hear a few minor moments of humanness in his voice during this performance, so I don’t think he does. His deepest parts are often the backing track, but it’s all soooo good and raw.
