- The cast of Glee reunites during the virtual ceremony for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards for a special tribute to the legacy of the late Naya Rivera’s character Santana Lopez. The tribute honors the ten-year anniversary of Santana’s coming out on the GLAAD Media Award-winning series and spotlights the character’s impact on LGBTQ teens and Latinx LGBTQ representation on television.
Global superstar Demi Lovato, who played Santana’s girlfriend on Glee, introduced the special tribute, featuring Glee cast members Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jessalyn Gilsig, Dot-Marie Jones, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Lauren Potter, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin, and Jenna Ushkowitz.

I had a VERY small part in Glee in the Ep: The Sue Sylvester Shuffle & I can attest to Naya's kindness, professionalism & talent. As a fellow Latinx artist, I was most excited & nervous to meet her because she was my favorite character on the show. She had a huge performance in that ep with "Heads Will Roll" & it was a privilege to see her perform it live over & over. It's a memory I will cherish & never forget. I ran into her a few years later & she remembered me. She was so humble. The mark she left in the industry is monumental and will last forever.
What a beautiful memory & tribute to Naya. She was incredible! That Episode was one of the best Episodes of Glee! ❤️ Her performance was amazing!

Diana Sophie Conti she was intentionally a misrepresentation! If you noticed in her first episode she comments on how she is “self diagnosed” Aspergers, and then proceeds to use it as an excuse to say whatever she wants. It’s a parody on people who suck and use things like Aspergers to excuse their behaviour when that’s not what it is at all.

My heart goes out to her son the most. The trauma he must have gone through suddenly not knowing where his mama was and to be completely confused and have to understand what happened over the course of weeks/months. Kids losing parents is heart-wrenching.
i won't be surprised if he develops some type of trauma based disorder and/or illness from this too. we need to keep protecting him.

I came out thanks to Naya, Santana & Glee when I was 14. I came out 10 years and 6 weeks ago, a week after the episode where she told Brittany she loved her. RIP Naya and thank you eternally for showing me how easy it is to change your life and live your true self.

When I first clicked on the video, I thought they were going to sing a song in honour of Naya and I thought that would have been a great tribute. I was not expecting to get this emotional just hearing them talk about their friend, Naya Rivera, and the incredible impact she's had on their lives and the world. RIP Naya Rivera, you are truly missed by many people!
I saw Santana Lopez come out when I was 11 years old, I myself am mexican and a closeted lesbian at the time. I was so terrified of telling my parents and I've never seen a lesbian latina on TV, I will forever be grateful for what Naya portrayed, not only did she give me strength to come out, she also gave me hope that eventually things could get better. Currently, at 21, I can proudly say that things got so much better. I don't know where I'd be without the representation she gave, I hope you're resting in peace Naya

Naya was an amazing woman. The saddest part of her death is that she will not get the chance to see her son grow up, and he won't get the chance to see his mom everyday. Such a sad loss all around.
I was 16 when Glee first aired and I had such a crush on Cory, but I remember seeing Naya and feeling so confused, having no idea bisexuality was a thing. Naya was the reason I questioned my sexuality. I hid it for so many years, terrified of what people would think. Glee changed my life and I'm now an out and proud bi woman and I have an Angel to thank.
Naya was also the reason I questioned mine. I looked up to her as a character, saw her as such an inspiration. I think she touched a lot of us and really gave us all assurance that to be ourselves was completely okay.

It's so weird how you can never meet someone but be so impacted by their death. Naya is the first celebrity whose death feels like a trauma in my own life. I could not watch this without crying.

Agreed! I was crying for days and so worried when they were trying to find her. Cory/Finn's Quarterback episode was so sad, and in real life Naya's was really hard. I was crying for a few days. That plus the crazy restrictions happening around the world that had started was a lot.
Naya’s passing is the one celebrity death that shattered me. I never met her but it felt like a light going out in an already dark world.

For a son to lose his mom at such a young age to me is just absolutely heartbreaking. When i found out that she passed and left a very young son behind, I broke down in tears because not only because Naya played one of my favorite characters. But because she passed away in a similar fashion just like my mom did. My mom may not have drowned. But she passed away back in 2004 from HIV when I was 5. I hope that little boy makes something of his life and make his momma proud.

As a straight man who never watched Glee or followed the career of Naya, her death was hard for me. I didn’t know her but I know of the work she has done for the lgbtq+ community. She was an inspiration for many young children and adults. May her legacy and work for the community continue for years to come.

Even as a stranger to Naya who got to watch her only on TV I can't believe she's gone. It doesn't feel like she's gone, same goes for Robin Williams. They touched so many people's hearts and we won't forget them. Thank you for your kindness and talent Naya.
It's amazing how she impacted people not just as a celebrity but as a person. All messages and tributes were saying the same thing. As Kevin said, she would treat you the way she treats her family and friends. She has touched so many lives, indeed. It's hard to believe that two months from now will be her first death anniversary. 😭

This could be the first celebrity death that was so hard for me to take in. I've always wished the best for Naya. I remember how I'd always fancast her in show forums because I was just in awe of her beauty and personality. I was so mad when she got demoted to being recurring cast in Glee and got a very short part in their I Lived performance. Almost all of my most favorite Glee covers were sung by her.
I looked up to Santana growing up. I’m a bisexual Latina and seeing other Latina who’s also a part of the LGBTQ+ community was something I never saw before I really loved seeing her on screen. Love you so much Naya. Thank you

we loved Naya and her passing has deeply affected all of us, even those who didn’t know her personally. She was such an amazing and strong Latina role model and her character Santana made it possible for so many young girls to be themselves. We will forever mourn her passing but I know that she is with Cory now and they watch over us and protect us
this show and specifically Santanas character and Brittany and Santana's relationship is the reason I started questioning my sexuality. I never considered being gay until I watched Glee. I am so so so grateful for Naya because I am now out and proud. I love being gay and it is a big part of who I am. She means so much to mean and I'm so sad she passed. she will be missed.

Glee was my light that helped me navigate my adolescent years and helped me understand myself before I had to go through the "who and what I am" phase. Cory and Finn were the people I looked up to and wanted to grow up to be like. And Naya was such a beautiful and bold person with a no shits given attitude who would do anything for the people she cared about. I hope both of them are in better places.

Finished listening to the Naya Rivera audiobook last week and felt so empty because those would be the last words many of us fans would hear from her. However, her legacy certainly lives on through her family, friends, and all the fans she’s touched through her monumental work on Glee and beyond. Queer Brown girls and allies unite!
