When I was in China, we'd have my dads students over sometimes and teach them how to make various western dishes. Especially during holidays we'd teach various American and German dishes. The students would help with the prep and my dad would teach them the processes. Now, another interesting note is that the people in the area of China we were in at the time seemed to really mashed potatoes, like, a lot. (to be fair I've always felt rather strongly about mash potatoes myself and can't blame them) Well on Thanksgiving one year, we had an extra large group coming over, 8 or 9 girls. So we went all out. We made a large varied spread of wonderful food.
One of the girls was really really small. She was 19 and a college student but she was _maaybe_ 4ft 5 (134.62cm) and reeeeaally shy. She barely spoke and couldn't maintain eye contact. She sat down surrounded by other girls, one of which handed her a bowl of mashed potatoes. She hesitantly took a bite...her eyes bulged and she shakily lowered her spoon and just stared at her bowl for a few minutes. Then she started shoveling it down. Each time she ran out she'd point at the serving dish and look pleadingly at one of the other girls (she couldn't reach). Now, as I said above, people in this region seems to really like mashed potatoes but this girl took it to a whole other level.
The mashed potatoes she was eating were plain. No butter no gravy. A few times one of the girls tried to get her to put one or the other on her potatoes. Her response was to aggressively shake her head and pull her bowl away protectively. She refused to even try any of the other foods on the table. By the end she ate 7 small bowls of plane mashed potatoes. Sat holding her belly with a sort of bewildered look on her face.
I mean..I love mashed potatoes, I really do but, I don't think I like them half as much as this girl did.
*Edit* I should probably explain why it was just a group of girls. My dad taught at universities in China and we invited both male and female students over for these things but for some reason male students never came. I think we had a male guest at one of these exactly once.

I used to nanny a kid, I would watch him every day at my house while his mom worked, so I would feed him food from my own pantry and I gave him ketchup for something one day. I think it might have been chicken nuggets, he was maybe 2 at the time, and he'd never had it before so I taught him to 'dip dip dip' the chicken. I'm directly responsible for that child's 'dip dip' addiction. Whoops. 😅 Any finger foods after that he would ask me and his mom for 'dip dip.' It didn't matter if it was red dip dip or white dip dip (ranch), he just wanted some dip dip on his plate.

Ketchup is sugar and vinegar mostly. Its engineered to taste good. Sugar is a drug and so your statement isn't false. Ketchup is like crack to a baby's mind. We have to be more conscious of what we are feeding our children. It is worse than what we ate and even worse than what our grandparents ate.
They are engineering food to be addictive and we willingly hook our children on to it.
Alcohol has a minimum age requirement due to the fact it can holt and destroy brain cells. Being 21 doesn't mean you won't experience the same dangers, it is just saying you can no longer blame anyone for what happens here because we put a warning on it and made laws. Do as you will.
Children don't have the understanding to make wise decisions, so we do that for our children until they are old enough to reap what they sow.
My son was not raised like my second born. I had a wake up call with her. We didn't eat out as much. I made all her baby food. Well 90% I still bought some stuff store bought. And I learned how to meal prep after having her.
If I am blessed with more I pray the Lord has guided me with more wisdom of His ways and not this world's way of raising up my child.

So developmentally beneficial to talk to her like anyone else! Way to go dad!!

Wrong. Talking to a baby like an adult doesnt boost thier vocabulary or speaking skills. Go Google 'parentese' and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Oh yes great parenting skills to take a toddler to mcdonalds and feeding her deep fried saturated fat and sugar filled ketchup . Amazing parenting skills !

Yes! The baby talk drives me INSANE! Then, they wonder why their kid is 3 and not speaking complete sentences.

From my knowledge base, using a normal tone is not developmentally beneficial. I am unsure about using advanced vocabulary with children, however.
