      If a parent is overly concerned they can make a area out of a lot of cushions or soft impact mats
      It would eliminate most of their concerns (the rest may need professional help if it becomes a obsession or something they can't let go of).
      I won't be doing this if I have kids but it's still ONE of the options for the concerned parents.
      Edit: the area would to be teach and encourage them to walk in a _extra_ safe area. Most homes are still safe, especially if baby proofed.

    I was born with a hemangioma at the very center, lower part of my neck, in the center of the collarbone area. When I was a baby/toddler I would scratch at it or if it became irritated it would bust open and bleed. I’m now 23 and it’s barely visible but when someone notices it they always ask if it’s a hickey. I’ve had employers ask me to cover it up before understand what’s it was, and people even question me until I show them baby pictures and then they feel stupid. Im now expecting my first child in less than 2 weeks and while I hope he doesn’t have the genetic birthmark, I will celebrate him if he does! Moral of the story, mind ya business!!!! lmao

    • @JAM661
      @JAM661 2 년 전 +6

      Well, people are curious, and it is not about bashing, but more about they are seeing something they have never seen before and have some questions.I bet you had lots of questions for the doctor when you saw it the first time also. I do not see that as a bad thing. Of course, it depends on how and what is asked. If you do not have time, just tell the person politely you do not have time, but can they Google what the condition is? There is no reason for being nasty. People do not learn if they do not ever ask questions. I would rather have people ask me questions than try to read my mind, which they usually are not very good at. Patience in life is something we all need to do better at practicing with others. Sometimes, we need to practice the same with ourselves.

    My daughter was also born with a hemangioma on the top of her scalp. It was the size of a pin at birth and grew to the size of a golf ball by age 3. We also had it removed because I was worried she would bump her head and it would rupture. I was also worried about bullying and her self esteem. We had it removed when she was almost 4. She is 14 now and doesn't remember having it at all. The surgeon was wonderful and it has healed so well. She has a small bald patch where it used to be but her hair covers it entirely. If we hadn't had it removed, it would have continued to grow with her and could be about the size of a baseball by now.

      I feel like people are worried that they will be judged for making medical decisions on behalf of their children, but that’s your job as a parent. If you didn’t get your daughter’s hemangioma removed, she wouldn’t be able to wear a helmet and would be restricted from lots of sports and activities. It’s just impractical to keep something that isn’t supposed to be there in the first place. My niece was born with an extra toe and my sister was under the mindset that there wasn’t anything “wrong” with it, so they weren’t going to get remove it… but they ended up getting it removed when she was 2 because it would cost over $1000 per shoe (more for winter boots) to have specialty shoes made (up till then they had her wear oversized shoes or none at all). And the shoes would all be very plain looking orthopaedic shoes. Now she wears sparkly plastic dress up shoes if she wants and she does figure skating. There are lots of quality of life things that she would miss out on if they didn’t make that decision for her.

      It would bleed profusely and take a massive effort to stop it. I had one on my arm the size of a pencil eraser, every time I bumped it it burst open and took hours to stop bleeding I ended up having to get it removed and cauterized because the root system underneath was the size of a dime and still growing, they tested the sample and it wasn’t cancerous thankfully but it was scary. My cousin’s daughter has a few on her head and hands like the one in the video but they were told it was a “birthmark” no it’s a tumor that creates it’s own vascular system and it’s a problem not just a blemish.

    This is a great story with a wonderful outcome for this beautiful young girl.
    I don't understand why some people feel the need to put everything on social media.
    I think that our youngsters deserve privacy.
    I don't think it will be much longer before the young ones ask this question to their parents... "Why did you put my younger self over the social media?"

    • @kaelabelle4886
      @kaelabelle4886 2 년 전 +5

      While I certainly agree that our children are deserving of privacy, I also believe that social media has created a newer generation of acceptance & awareness ❤ Something like this would've gotten many of us bullied as children, whereas now it's something seen as a point of strength and hope. Hemangiomas are quite common, this little girl is very special in the sense that she could go on to help many others who share the condition to feel less alone. I think society is healing- what was once viewed as "weird" or different is now seen as unique and beautiful. Just an observation, of course, but also my perspective on why her parents may have chosen to share this delicate matter.
      Edit: grammar
