I love the reaction to our "maiz con hielo" or in the more modern Filipino way of spelling it "Mais con Yelo". I guess we both speak and not speak Spanish Link. Our grandparents certainly do, our national schools and the government used Spanish as the Lingua Franca up until the Americans came and replaced it with English. Now, most Filipinos have lost the ability to speak spanish, though it is still embedded in our language and culture. There have been a few attempts of its revival though in the government, universities as well as the outsourcing call center side of business. And yep.... we do enjoy our Latin Telenovelas over here.
