I remember checking the internet everyday when she disappeared and hoping and praying somehow she would be safe for her family. Very sad. And a great video covering it.

Such a sad loss to anyone. No one needs to die young at all. May she rest in Heaven. This makes me think of my sister who died from the COVID-19 virus and can't talk about it anymore cause it's been so many months since October. Why I don't feel like talking about it anymore sorry. I never knew about this Angel but she did her motherly duty . She saved her boy,I wish her and her family eternal love and happiness .
Too bad she didn't choose to wear a life vest, and to not jump in the middle of a lake.

Unfortunately, no matter how good of a swimmer someone may be, if they get caught in a current it likely won't end well. May she rest in peace and watch over her precious son
Facts
There are generally no currents that would amount to anything on a lake. Something else happened, maybe she hit her head.
I didnt hear it was a current i think she got stuck on something but it could have been many things. Whatever the case its sad. I just wish she too was wearing a vest. It would have saved her life. She was so talented and still young.
That plus there was a lot of brush under the water that she could've gotten caught on
@@daleyoung87 she had very bad vertigo, i have that as well, imagine being super drunk an being spun 20 times in a circle an than try an walk an see, think straight. Naya was a small women, imagine having a vertigo spell ( which could be triggered by the swift jump off the boat ) w 25mph or more wind, a boat not secured , an not wearing a life jacket. It seems to me she had a vertigo spell immediatly recognized it so put her son back in the boat an than go so disoriented an tired she went under, it doesnt take long to get tired even without any currant w vertigo spell, panic, an adrenaline going.. seems to me she had jus enough energy an will to get her son to saftey went under an in that state within 30 seconds she would have passed out an drown. Either that or she hit her head thus also triggering vertigo. After learning from her book, how badly an frequent these vertigo spells were an came an went im convinced that is what happened.( also it matches her sons discription as well). Her son didnt mention her falling or hitting her head etc.
I still can't believe it's been almost a year since her tragic death she will be missed.

I feel like when she went into the water she realized how strong the currents were and that was why she pushed her son back up. She probably saved his life.

I was watching the press release with my boyfriend when they released that they had found her. My heart broke instantly. She was such a huge part of my childhood
My daughter sings in her class choir. She was devastated when she heard the news. She loves Glee and it broke my heart to see her sad that way.

That case is very sad all together and from reports, she gave her own life to save his. This terrible incident broke my heart to bits. It's ironic her song basically talks about her death in the river before it occurred also. It's almost like she had a vision of it.

I have always felt something was off about her drowning. She was able to get her son to the ladder and on the boat but she didn't just use the ladder to hold onto if she couldn't climb up herself. Instead she just thrust one arm in the air, says oh no and goes under.
Many people have drowned here. Even in shallow water. There was a family that was holding hands walking in shallow water and one of the kids was suddenly violently pulled away from group and drowned. Her dad said he couldn't pull her away from whatever pulled her into deep waters. He even grabbed onto her hair and still couldn't save her. Something is very wrong there.
There are probably a lot of whirlpool currents there that they aren't advertising.
Wonder if the proximity of the dam creates nasty currents and/or undertows.

@@tuxedotservo and very cold temperatures not far from the surface. It takes seconds for muscles to cramp from the sudden change in temperature. I have family that go boating on a dam near them and other than a shallow section that is roped off for kids it's absolutely no swimming and life vests are mandatory for this reason.

Thanks for doing this. A friend sent me this, because he knows how much I loved Naya (and Glee). I was good until you showed her version of If I Die Young and all over again, I was crying. The purple flowers were a nice touch and looked beautiful with the white ones there.
A fact about that lake is it has a lot of whirlpools and brush all over the bottom too, which has caused a number of deaths. If you Google Lake PIru, there's an article about those deaths. One death was even someone WEARING a life vest. Which is a good education for the rude people commenting and disrespecting a woman who saved her son's life by giving her own.
Anyway, great video! Definitely will be watching more!

I know they banned swimming after her death, but did they ban it permanently? lots of people have drowned there, the lake has some pretty strong currents and debris under it I heard.
@Roasted Potatoes I read one instance of someone actually wearing a lifejacket in this lake and they still drowned. even people less than 10' from the shore have drowned. all I wanted to know if swimming was banned temporarily or forever there.

I remember when Princess Diana died. I was nine years old. Never heard of her or anything but I remember feeling heartbroken! I remember Twitter kept saying “She’s on a rock!” when Naya disappeared, and I felt the same thing when she passed. She was found the 7th anniversary of Cory’s passing.

I honestly think she pulled a severe cramp when swimming, I pulled one b4 in my leg every thing tensed up on me in my legs so bad I couldn’t move at all, luckily my friend noticed me and I was at his pool, he literally saved my life.... RIP

@@babygirlzmommy There was a current, that's what pulled her under and ultimately killed her. This was stated by law enforcement a long time ago. I'm surprised by the amount of people that are thinking otherwise.
I pulled a cramp once and nearly die and I'm a good swimmer. Never go into water after you have something to eat. You are more susceptible to cramp. If you must, try some exercise or stretch first to loosen your body.

I never heard of her until this happened. Just sad that all she wanted to do that day was spend time with her son away from everyone else out on the water. They no doubt would have been having a great time before tragedy struck

Years ago I camped at Lake Piru a few times.....what I remember most is how tame the deer were....for being so close to LA is was not very crowded....such a sad story, she was so talented and so young...
She’s on my fav Netflix show “Sugar Rush” on one episode she was a guest judge and then seeing her name in the news was shocking, what a tragic accident, and frightening way to go. Her son should know his mom is a hero saving his life.

That clip of "If I die young" always choked me up because of why it was performed after Cory's death. Now it is even more impactfully sad.
This made me tear up. First of all for her...having saved her young son. She literally gave her life for him. Second, watching them arrive at the marina together and park the car...him not knowing it would be the last time he would see his mommy. I have a four year old son (and a 2 year old son as well) and I could never imagine their life without me. May God be with this little boy, and the family left to raise him. Such a tragedy. I never watched Glee, but I will always remember Naya as little Gwendolyn on Family Matters. RIP, Naya.

When I was homeschooled I watched the whole season and episode of glee on netflix. So far two glee cast past away like Cory Monteith and Mark Saling, when I found out on July 8 that naya had passed away from accidental drowning I was in shock. Rest in Peace to Naya Rivera, Mark Saling and Cory Monteith. Gone but never forgotten.
Mark actually killed himself because he was in trouble with the law but i still think its sad. They all had so much potential in the future Coreys death was an accident. Nayas was am accident its sad i rewatched the show and im sad whenever they show up

Some adults don't think about it either. My fathers cousin used to live on a lake with her husband and 2 sons, one day she looked out and her young son was alone in the boat ( wearing his life jacket) her husband was nowhere to be seen.( They found his body a few days later on Mothers day .. My uncle actually found him) he never wore a life vest cause he " could swim" .. this time it was the first time on the lake since it thawed ( we live in Quebec) the water was ice cold. We figure he fell in ( was Knocked in) when he tried to stop the dogs from fighting on the boat. Ice cold water is a shock to the system, and even if he could have grabbed onto the boat to try to haul himself back up, he wouldn't have, because he didnt want to risk tipping his toddler son in .. we think he thought he could make it to shore... he couldn't.
Because she was a good swimmer and she loved swimming. You cant predict what will happen. She didnt know. Anyone whos at fault is the lake owners for not having signs put up saying it was dangerous. Now there's signs but tons of people have drowned there before her death. Its got history but no one knew because it wasnt a big story. Hers was because she was a celeb and went missing. Some people cant swim with vests on and they want to actually swim. Its a sad tragic accident.

I remember the day they found her. It was my Birthday. I had this gut feeling that something was gonna go wrong that day. and then I opened instagram to see that she had been found. There was a bit of relief knowing she wasn't missing anymore. Definitely a tragedy she was an idol to many members the LGBTQ+ youth, myself included. Long Live Naya Rivera.
