  • The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was one of the most popular phones of 2016. And one of the biggest recalls in world history. The phones were starting on fire. The issue was narrowed down to it being something with the battery itself. But what REALLY went wrong? Did samsung do the right thing in trying to rush the new 'safe' phones to market? Its time to find out.
    Samsung Graphics can be found HERE: news.samsung.com/global/infog...
    How do you feel about the Note 7? Will you be buying the Note 8? Do you trust Samsung has finally figured out their battery problems?

    I think a Note 7 with the battery taken out would make for quite a collector's item, no? That's probably the reason the 4% still haven't sent their Note 7s back. People are even selling the Note 7 boxes on eBay for upwards of $20. After eBay banned people from selling the phone, the boxes originally were selling for up to $60 😂

    These replacement models, which Samsung purportedly classified as being safe, had a prominent marking on their packaging to distinguish them from the first wave of recalled units, and render all software battery indicators with green icons. Samsung was granted special permission by Google to allow this change, as it would normally violate the requirements of the Android Compatibility Definition Document (which must be met to license Google Mobile Services software and Android trademarks) for all status bar icons to only be rendered in white.

    loved it to the fact that after seeing this video I do still have hope that someone might actually fix its battery issue and run the device like it should
    Very unfortunate of Samsung with the whole battery & recall issue
    but truth be told, they took it to the chin and realized the faults that they did and stood up to it, this is very rare nowadays.
    They replaced, recalled, shipped all the units, apologized globally and released the details of their own investigation, the only thing left for them to do is to come up with a Note 8 that will reclaim their customers' satisfaction & their own reputation in the mobile market
    Thank you very much Jerry for all the details, you've been very informative and detailed through this whole roller coaster

    Interesting video and great explanation, well done. I was involved in lithium battery manufacturing myself for quite a few years and Samsungs reasons are correct. I've seen it before. As regards losses, Samsung did quantify their losses from Note7 in their final quarter accounts which ironically was their most profitable since 2013, and losses from the Note was $5.2 billion. So we can put the wild speculation behind us. Still a lot of money but nowwhere near $17 billion.

    This is a really interesting and informative video, thank you. personally, I don't think I'll be able to trust Samsung after this, it's so stupid and dangerous to rush the replacements. I've just gotten rid of my note 4, it was less that a year old, due to battery issues and it's getting so hot it melted the plastic backing. i love Samsung, but the safety of their batteries worried me too much to purchase again.

      Jay Dykes I did tried my oldest brother's note 4 once. And I honestly thought I was causing the phone to heat up. But it was just the device itself. And he gotten rid of it for $200 at the time.

      Jay Dykes this can happen to any company. Not trusting Samsung is kinda silly. Even iPhones have exploded in the past

    • @Ez3k1e7
      @Ez3k1e7 7 년 전 +6

      It could happen to any company , but it happened to Samsung , twice. I wouldn't mind buying Samsung in the future , but i get why someone won't , people have different limits and priorities concerning safety , i don't find it silly at all.

    • @penguinsjd
      @penguinsjd 7 년 전 +1

      Javian Brown every Samsung phone I've had has had overheating issues, and that's with me regularly buying new batteries. To hear they're exploding is the last straw, they need to sort their battery issues out.

    • @penguinsjd
      @penguinsjd 7 년 전

      Yuk Foo I only use Samsung chargers dispite them being pretty expensive. I even wrap them in harder wire to protect them a little more and stop pets from getting to them. Its not cause I'm using cheap chargers or batteries or portable chargers, it's cause Samsung aren't building their products to last, even with the heavy amount I use my phone (I do all work through it) I need a phone to last more than a year for that price. I've had 4 Samsung phones and none have lasted as long as they should. I just bought the huawei mate 9 and it's so much better, battery lasts twice as long, the chord it good quality, you can't change the battery out easily but you would never need to, oh and it's like £150 cheaper with a 2 year guarantee. At this point, there isn't much reason to buy from Samsung and risk getting something dangerous when you could get a better product, for cheaper, from a smaller company.

      dislexiar That is unfortunately true.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech 7 년 전 +1

      dislexiar Both problems trace back to making the phone too small to hold a reasonable capacity for its power draw. Even the optional higher capacity back for the S5 is overly tight. They need to stop pretending all models - particularly these high end ones - must be too thin to even handle.

    Still using my note 7. Had it since Aug. Not a single issue. Out of 3 million phones maybe 150 or so had an issue. Divide 3 million by 150 and you'll realize you have a better chance of dying in a car crash than something happening to your phone

    I work in the hotel business and I've met a lot of Samsung engineers, some of them I met in Seoul, and they all said that the issue was known from the start but the heads pushed for an early release to compete with the iPhone. One guy described exactly what you show in this video, layers stuck too close to each other.

      Absolutely agree with you. They pushed their luck too much, always pushing and pushing for lower cost to get maximum profit. It's okay to improve profit it's business after all, but when you keep going too far, it's just a matter of time before something goes wrong.

    I wonder if this will convince them to give us removable batteries again. If the Note 7 had replaceable batteries, they could've just shipped off everyone a brand new one, without losing out on the entire cost of the phone :p Either way, 10 years from now people are gonna be like "remember the big Note 7 fiasco?" :p
