    The problem is that this (like every other "USB-built-in" outlet I've ever seen) was already obsolete before it came out. It's only a 30W charger. Nowadays, 60W is pretty much standard for any decent charger (even for fast charging many phones), and 100W or more is not unheard of (and is actually necessary if you want to plug in most laptops, etc).
    USB charging technology is changing so fast currently that there is absolutely no reason to build something like this into your fixed home wiring. It is just guaranteed to be obsolete and mostly useless a year from now, if not sooner.
    (This one's even worse than most because it only has one regular outlet too, so you've actually given up an outlet just to save yourself from plugging in a brick that was only taking up one outlet to begin with. Great savings!)

      @Blaze6108 2 개월 전

      You almost certainly can't put anything over 30W in a wall outlet because it will cook itself to death. But 20-30W is perfectly fine for charging small devices, the idea that chargers become "obsolete" because they don't have the biggest buffest wattage isn't really how USB-C charging works.
      USB-PD means that this charger will be compatible with anything that doesn't require over 30W, which is the whole point of the tech. It's not about pumping the wattage infinitely high.
      Also, aren't there interchangeable socket modules in the USA?

Which is a big waste of electricity to have a 12volt source permanently plugged in or installed in the wall, so those electronics are burning watts of power when you're not even charging anything. There's also the trouble that different vendors have different USB-C charging standards - It's not all standardized, and not all USBC devices work with all chargers, And so you may get suboptimal charging speed or failure to charge at all on some devices without the correct power brick.

    1. A power strip is usually a better solution to bricks clogging up your outlets. It's unlikely that electronic battery devices will pull more than 5 amps AC (roughly 600 watts).
    2. The USB-C ports on most products that include AC outlets tend to be pretty anemic, they'll charge your phone faster than USB-A, but not a modern laptop or gaming console. The one used here tops out at 30 watts, whereas a recent USB-PD charger can put out upwards of 200 watts. The reason is likely to prevent fires.
    3. You're going to need long (read: expensive) USB-PD cables to reach a typical outlet from a desk or a table.

      What.
      So, this is the same exact concept as an outlet. In the sense that, your outlet is “always on”. You can plug a brick into an outlet, because that outlet is being fed constant power.

    • @Wizard__J
      @Wizard__J 7 개월 전

      And yes, just like he showed you in this video, it’s on a switch.
      They also do this with outlets. They’re called “switched outlets” (no shit, durhhh), so you can *turn off* constant power to a specific outlet.
      Otherwise, you’re thinking of leaving this “on”, as if it’s an appliance, when indeed it is not

But, in this new era, there are more and more devices that consume energy even when they are not working. We really don't need that for environmental reasons, it's not just one outlet, it's one at my place, then one at the neighbor's, then I put another one in the other room... it ends up being an unnecessary waste of a lot of energy. Also smart switches cennected to wifi... Think about the environment.

At a certain point frugality is just making your life worse for no reason. Yes, a built in switch wouldn't hurt but it doesn't outweigh convenience if you have a specific outlet you always charge your devices at.
