Here's how I made a real Captain America shield that actually flies and bounces back. It's made of carbon fiber with a fiberglass ring to provide bounce while keeping maximum strength. The shield magnetically connects to the users wrist and can be thrown overhand like Captain America.

Welcome to the cap club! Couldn't have done better myself, I never imagined a bouncing shield would work that well! Definitely a potential real product, you should try and partner with Disney to make them!

Yowww hahah
What a simple build! This is one of your best projects! This looks so much attainable and is so close to the movie and comics. Like that ratio is perfect!
Simple build ? Damm 💀😂😂
Alright bet
You should just got a hula hoop
A note for the future if you wanna try this again; carbon fiber doesn’t have substantial stiffness by itself, it’s the resin that’s super rigid. If you could find an alternative option for the bonding resin, something softer and more flexible while still being durable, you could make the entire shield from carbon fiber with that alternative resin

You should try replacing the magnets on the shield with a magnetic ring instead, where the diameter matches the magnets on your arm. That way you might be able to catch the shield on you arm with the magnets regardless of the shields orientation

This is just as impressive as JLaser's more technical builds, IMO. His disciplined approach to the physics, not leaning on electronics for any part of this, is extremely impressive. It would be too easy to slap some swiss cheese on a drone and say "the movie thing flies, and mine does too. They're the same!", but JLaser actually made something that acts just like the shield on screen. And he did it by getting to the root of the physics. Top tier stuff!

Funny thing is, in the comics, the actual canon explanation for the shield bouncing perfectly IS that Cap can calculate the exact trajectory needed for that throw. He practiced a lot to be able to do that.

Such a cool design
The "Captain America is just a geometry whiz who can calculate angles perfectly in a split-second" explanation is pretty much spot-on correct. It's mentioned in the movies (and the comics) that the Super-Soldier Serum basically made Cap into what Steve Rogers imagined the perfect soldier to be. So his grasp of tactics and strategy, his reaction time, and his awareness of his environment are enhanced every bit as much as his muscles, skeleton, and metabolism. You can see the seed of what the Serum enhances already present in Steve, though: in the scene where everyone else tries to scramble up the flagpole to grab the flag (getting a ride instead of a hike back to base as a reward), Steve susses out that he can just remove the lynch pin and the pole will fall over, allowing him to pick the flag up off the ground. So the basic ability to figure out efficient tactics and calculate angles on the fly was there, the Serum just cranked it up to 11.

“ or Captain America is just a geometry whiz” you’re joking but that is actually exactly what he does. He can just do the calculations super quickly
Was gonna say this. Plus, I think in the one he showed that is more unrealistic (bouncing off people) had the magnetic device. Idk if the movies stated that it helped with returning it to him like the comics or if it was just a way to hold it to his suit easier but yeah, there are definitely additional devices sometimes.
True. It's explained in the comics that his thought process and perception is faster than normal thanks to the super soldier serum. He explained it as he "thinks faster".
It’s an awesome character detail for sure however it’s kind of sad that apparently the Falcon and the U.S Agent who are both not super soldiers in the Disney plus show, are some how able to do the calculations and throw the shield as hard as Steve Rogers
@@joshprice5041 i mean U.S agent did end up taking the super serum, and to defend sam, captain america's skills with the shield are self-taught, while sam spent many years fighting alongside him and watching him use it. it is true that their sudden skill with the shield is a bit weird but it has a bit of reasoning behind it.
Wait true he's a super soildier that doesn't mean just strength he must have super smarts as well

Amazing work!
Hey I man a big fan of captain America and your videos they really help with Science project
"Captain American is a geometry wiz that can calculate the perfect shot" Yes. That's exactly it. His super soldier mind allows him to react much quicker and much greater. He uses this, and the vibranium in the shield allowing it to absorb kinetic energy, to always hit his target and bounce back to his hands..
And he can throw it hard enough that he could do it with anything circular like that
In the comics he can “think faster than a bullet.” He’s the best military commander of all time because of his ability to out think his opponents. It’s cool
Yep. He literally trained for that
then how can sam do it without the serum lmao
Damn
Three things: One, dope build. Two, of course we need "spring rings", anyone saying otherwise is wrong. Three, classiest and most constructive resolution to internet beef EVER. Keep up the awesome.

It's not the oscillations causing it to become unstable but when the lip of the Frisbee hits the wall and rebounds off the centre of mass causing it to be unstable

Nice work
10/10 amn good job it worked so well.
This is honestly one of the best "made in real life" projects ever.
Fun fact, the fact that cap can bounce his shield so perfectly was brought up in the comics. He spent so much time training with his shield that he could tell how it was going to fly with just a glance.
Seems like a similar skillset to a pro billiards player.
The battle at the end was pretty good
Technically, the super soldier serum amplifies EVERYTHING. Good, evil, strength, and most importantly, smartness. So captain America is most likely a physics genius
As an engineer I have to say this is your best video to date! I like that you cover your entire process and your development skills have been improving with every subsequent video. I would have approached the problem differently but your solution is much more polished than your other videos. I watch your videos to my toddler, so we can discuss your approach and introduce him to STEM. Kudos on the design work, I am sure people would be interested in both of those as products. If I’m not mistaken, the reason the shield moves the way it does is due to cap’s enhanced perception from the super soldier syrum. He basically calculates the trajectory super fast.
As far as I know, this is the reason, the producers gave some time ago. But it does not work anymore, because Falcon does not have the serum and still can throw the shield like Cap.

It’s funny because Cap really is just great at geometry and has excellent battlefield awareness. Canonically, he evaluates the positions of all allies and enemies and finds the best path to do the most damage without hitting his friends. He even makes mistakes sometimes and has to make big dives to catch the shield or he just misses it all together. Though that’s rare
Oh yeah

That might also work in the mcu, Erskine said the serum amplifies all aspects of a person, including mental. If cap was good at maths before the serum, he wouldve been brilliant after.
