Theres lots of native foods let alone our own culture using local produce and world class wines seafood kangaroo meat crocodile meat native plums macadamia nits tropical fruits theres native spinach like theres so so sooooo many things that are aussie even if they arent originally native to australia that saying shit like we dont have any is ridiculous and i really highly reccomend finding a local farmers market with native honey and other produce and experiencing aussie cuisine since you clearly lacked the wonderful experience.
Go find a local indigenous centre or program and learn about bush foods and experience that if you want the native experience. I mean ffs theres royal botanical gardens like the ones in capital cities that legit have free fucking fruits vegetables and native ones as well and bbq facilities so you can legit bring food cook it up right there and pick some fresh herbs or whatever floats ya boat edible flowers etc. Seriously youre missing out. Sorry you havent had the pleasure ive been lucky enough to have a lot of diverse experiences with nature and food and being raised by farming family had that connection to the land that a lot of people dont have.

I would agree with that. There were cringey attempts during the eighties at attempting creating Australian cuisine but they just didn’t work and no one was interested. Thing is, especially in Melbourne, is we do everything from all around the world exceedingly well. It is truly a multicultural city and so many different cuisines are available - except Portuguese, Sydney trumps Melbourne there ! I spend a lot of time in Singapore and it is probably my favourite food city in the world, but I always am bemused by their claim to multiculturalism. “ We have Malay, Chinese and Indian” I’d call that Tetraculturalism - I usually respond to that with “I’m from Melbourne mate, we have two hundred cultures living there”

There are nuances to Josh's "you're an idiot"....sometimes, it's a dismissive "oh, you're so silly", sometimes it's an even more dismissive "bollocks", sometimes it's "don't be such an asshole"....so they're all pretty much dismissive, but there are levels to it.

한국과 중국의 혼혈이신분이 일본어를 한국어라 하니 혼란스럽다
아무래도 삐까번쩍하다는 말을 사투리같은 걸로 이해하고 쓴 것 같아요
저 여성분의 어머님 연세가 대략 50대 정도로 예상되는데, 거의 30년 쯤 전일까 삐까번쩍이란 말이 일상적으로 많이 쓰이던 시기가 있었거든요. 당시 어린 시절을 한국에서 보내고 호주로 넘어가셨다면 충분히 삐까를 한국말로 생각하실 수 있을 겁니다. 어렸을 때 이민 가신 현재 장년층 분들 중에는 요지나 쯔봉 다마네기 같은 것도 한국말이라 생각하는 분이 있을 수도...

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 일제 강점기의 흔적이죠. 삐까는 일본어로 반짝이란 뜻이지만 실제로 일상 한국어 중에서 아주 반짝반짝하고 호화로운 장소를 묘사할때 "삐까번쩍하다" 라고 쓰이기도 하고요. (물론 잘못된 표현입니다.) 그래서 저분이 잘못 알고 계신 것 같기도 하네요 ㅎㅎ

by the way "pika" is shiny in japanese, like pikachu(shiny+rat),
we call shiny as pika because longtime ago we're been under japanese colonized perial,
so some kind of word we using japanese instead, but nowadays people begin to stop using that kind of word prequantly.

요즘은 쓰는 사람 별로 못 보긴 했는데, 과거엔 화려하고 비싸고 멋진 무언가(스포츠카라든가)를 지칭할 때 '삐까번쩍하다'란 말을 자주 썼었죠. 이름을 거기서 따왔나본데, 앞서 다른 분들이 지적하셨듯이 저기서 '삐까'는 ピカピカ(피카피카/반짝반짝)에서 온 일어입니다. 창업자가 그걸 한국어로 알고 있다는 게 좀 안타깝네요ㅋ

I dunno, I feel like people from east-asia always get so excited when they learn somebody has put in the effort to learn their native tongue. Like, I am sure people from other places feel the same, but I know this especially from Japanese people. They just get so excited and encouraging, telling you how great your are doing even if it's super basic stuff. It is so sweet

Actually Pika is Japanese. Pikachu's Pika is one of example. It just the word came to Korea when Japanese occupation. We use it but it's not Korean definitely.
