  • Homemade corn dogs are already easy to make. But we don't stop there, we're taking it further and bringing the cheesy Korean corn dog also known as the Gamja Dog to the home. Then maybe we'll decide which is the best corn dog in the world.

With me being a very simple cook I in turn tend to cook very simple meals. I always watch these and say hey I could make that but I never do.... Until today. I manned up and took my list to the store and got all the stuff to make both style corn dogs. They were a smashing success... I feel like my rather simple chef self evaluation has shot all the way to where I feel like I could run a line at a Michelin star restaurant. This is an exciting high I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
Thanks for this and now I'll start doing other recipes and maybe even get that cookbook. The sky is the limit, thanks for the boost Josh and corn dogs.

If I made the korean corndog, I would probably cut the cheese and sausage into bite-sized pieces, and then alternate them on the skewer, so you get a more balanced experience of cheese and sausage. Then again, maybe that would make the bits lose integrity so they'd fall apart in the oil.

It's a pretty accurate koreadog. My only particular criticism having had these from Seoul. They don't really do a super fancy sauce for the dog unless it's in a particular restaurant ((Yes, Korea idolizes hot dogs so much you can end up getting them in an extravagant restaurant.)) They intentionally will leave sauces separate and drizzle it over. Usually a combination of ketchup + mayo + mustard. A lot of the "carts" will do the halfsies, but my personal favorite korea dog hailed from this . . . I just want to call it a truck stop? It had tons of little food shops all over the place. Instead of doing a half and half, they essentially created multiple segments so it'd be like sausage, mozz, sausage, mozz, sausage, mozz.
I don't know what else they did, but it was a truly phenomenal dog. Regardless, the replication was pretty accurate. Korea food is pretty delicious and simplistic and always worth giving a try.

Korean corndog(aka hotdog) were not much different from American one, except that they had the corndog with fries.
However, most of stalls used to sell those street foods are now gone. I don't know the exact reason, but maybe due to fine dust, covid or popularization of food delivery.(or b/c people's perception on street foods are changed)
Some of the good ones are manage to survive and became a franchise of their own, specialized in those street foods items.
That's why they become fancy now, because they are not street food anymore(at least those on the video).
Well, they are delicious either way, so I have no complaints.

Still worth to try it at home I think.

    • @princessxxramo
      @princessxxramo 2 년 전 +5

That's exactly what I was thinking, getting both dog and cheese would be much better. To solve the structural issues the other comments are talking about, I'm thinking wrapping the dog in multiple slices of cheese before dipping it, or dipping it very softly in just the wet batter and then rolling it in a tray of grated cheese, then dipping it again in the batter and onto the potatoes and panko. Might just work as the dog would still be sturdy enough to hold the whole thing together while frying.

@74 Rowe whereas they are not Korean, streetfood is more broad term and not limited to pizza burgers and hot dogs. Also Koreans cook them way better at this point as American standartes have degraded over time. Finally, Burgers and Hot Dogs are German and Pizza is Italian. I don`t know what kind of cultural appropriation you are talking about. You need to learn the basics before tjrowing such comments DAWG

I’m not a vegan; I am a 30 year long vegetarian. And I really don’t give a crap about how you think I make vegans look. I have just much of a right as anybody else to express what I think.
And by the way, there are plenty of foods that don’t come from an animal that I think are gross too. As a vegan, you are the one that comes off looking like a “B“ for attacking someone that calls out meat for being nasty. I’m pretty sure vegans are all about animal rights, and their intent is supposed to be about defending animals. You obviously don’t give a shit. A vegan saying that they “respect“ people for eating animals is literally an oxymoron.
I bet you aren’t even a vegan, and I find it suspicious af that the very first comment you’ve ever left on this video was to attack someone for saying meat is gross if you actually were one (as well your second post of the only two comments that you have posted on this channel).

The mix is a bit thick even with another 100ml of buttermilk. I just added a good dollop of whole milk until I had the right consistency. First time trying them. Tried regular hotdogs and good quality frankfurters and the Franks were by far the better, smoked too.
Loved them, that crunch was great. Big tip, wait for the oil to heat back up to 350 after cooking a few or else you might end up taking more than 5 mins to cook and it goes a little soggy.

With all that said, what's with the proliferation of "All Things Junk Food, only Better" videos? His Sourdough Bread is now my go-to recipe so there still lots here for me. I'm not asking for Julia Child redux, but Corn Dogs? What happened to his killer home cooking for the everyday table?
