    This mask is intended to reduce the spread of your own germs to others. It is not a replacement of a medical N95 mask.
    If you cannot find bandanas or rubber bands, you can cut up a cotton bed sheet or tshirt to 22 in square and you could also use a hair tie. If your rubber band and/or hair tie do not fit comfortably over your ears, loop a ribbon through both of them and tie it behind your head.

      This is just my opinion I wouldn't use rubber bands oh, I would feel that they would break and snap. I've been making several of these masks. They've come to realize that you need more than cotton you need a filtering system. Actually they're using HEPA vacuum cleaner bags HEPA filter. I'm making these for my daughter-in-law cuz she works in ICU at the hospital and that's what they recommend. They recommend Olsen face mask

    No staples, no hot glue gun, no sewing! I didn’t have large enough rubber bands on hand, but I did have big pony tail holders that’s meant for thick and long hair. I was able to make this mask quickly and easily! Thank you!

  • @monkeyprincess1961
    @monkeyprincess1961 4 년 전 +397

    With this many layers, there is very little need for adding a filter. If you are making these and have either a pipe cleaner or even the paper/plastic coated wire that comes with trash bags or on bread wrappers, use 2 of the wires or fold a pipe cleaner in half and insert between the upper folds across the bridge of your nose. Press down on both sides simultaneously to achieve better coverage around your nose. Disassemble completely before washing between each wearing! Otherwise the wire will be bent out of shape and the rubber bands could melt in your dryer! Thank you for this simple pattern that anyone should be able to do!

      Thought about using a bra too. Since only Target is open you can’t buy anything to make a mask. Got some cotton ones on order and will use HBAC filter as an inset. BTW, not easy to breathe with a bandana folded over once, and video shows 4 times. Not good.

    From the CDC website:
    HCP use of homemade masks:
    In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to the chin or below) and sides of the face.

      This is more for those of us going outside to go to stores because a good chunk of people who have this will not show any symptoms but can still spread it. This isn't to prevent things from coming in, though it will somewhat I imagine, but to protect people from things coming out of your mouth. Also just a good tool to have so you don't touch your face.

      Although surgical masks (and presumably DIY masks) are more leaky than N95 masks, randomized studies that have tracked infection rates have found that surgical masks are just as effective as N95 masks at preventing the transmission of viruses. Researchers don’t know the exact reason for this. However, some scientists hypothesize that masks help, in part, because they prevent us from touching our face. That helps keeps us from “planting” viruses our mouth, nose, and eyes.

    Beautiful idea I saw so many ideas that are great on KRplus and some are great or hard .I don’t want to pull out my sewing machine so I actually sew a bra by hand. which I found an easier version to make.That being said I will not be making any more of those bras breeding.That bandanna is awesome I will be making the bandanna .But being in the medical field I would put a coffee filter in between and just change the coffee filter after every use & hair rubber bands Great job you’re awesome lady.
