I've been waiting for Virginia to win the National Championship since the early 80's (the Ralph Sampson years). Boy, I't's been a long wait. But I have a feeling this isn't the last one. Go Wahoos!!

@Niger Nelly Duke should have been knocked out in the second round. They tried to win with sheer athleticism but that's not enough in the NCAAT.

I was at JPJ (1:40:28), then the "happy riot" at the UVA Corner - What a night - and every game at JPJ (and all others on TV) leading to this incredible run of "redemption" - same as last year and many years before...
I watched UVA win their first ACC title at Capital Center in 1976... and watched Ralph Sampson and co. win game after game in U-Hall (RIP May 2019).. and the great battle of the bigs (Ralph Sampson v Patrick Ewing) at Capital Center in DC. All the way back to the incredible mayhem and Barry Parkhill's last-second shot against then #2 USC in U-Hall (1971). Last week, looking at U-Hall's soon-to-be remains, I ran into Lanny Stahurski - a player who was on the floor at that historic game. So many special moments leading to this pinnacle. Been worth the wait of half-a-century :D
This was 1 of the best years for March Madness. It tends to filter down to the blue blood schools almost every year. Total unpredictability this year!
I'm a Kentucky fan and thoroughly enjoyed seeing new blood in the final. I love my team, but wish we were not a one and done school. I can't even imagine the success we would have had with juniors and seniors. It was a pleasure to watch the talent and experience of UVa and Texas Tech.

Thanks Byron for acknowledging that very fact about unpredictability because it seems to me so many on these sites have blamed UVa's road to the crown specifically on them! Ppl should know by now that when u advance, u can't control or dictate who your going up against in future rounds! Virginia beat everyone placed in front of them and yet they were ridiculously criticized for it

My uncle is a die-hard Virginia basketball fan and he was the first person I chatted with after they'd won it! He's been thru his share as a supporter, so I was extremely happy for him and I've been an ACC fan since '82 outside of the Tar Holes! Virginia winning was Aok with me

I notice how the final 4 is such a party environment for the games, unlike the NBA Finals. The NBA Finals are great, but more sterile and subdued. The final 4 is full of crazy college students and the students figure it's probably their last visit to the final 4. Such a lively sporting event.
What a devastating last 20 secs of regulation for tech. Bad defense followed by a bad shot on offense. Cost them a title right then and there.
I'm a Tar Heel fan, but I am glad Virginia won it all. ACC For The Win!

As of 2019, with the exception of 2013 Louisville (whose title was vacated), every school that has won the NCAA tournament since 2004 has had some form of blue as one of their school colors.
2004 - UConn. 2005 - UNC. 2006 & 2007 - Florida. 2008 - Kansas. 2009 - UNC. 2010 - Duke. 2011 - UConn. 2012 - Kentucky. 2014 - UConn. 2015 - Duke. 2016 - Villanova. 2017 - UNC. 2018 - Villanova. 2019 - UVA.
That is pretty impressive a stat! But regardless of vacating, Louisville still won that national championship on the court! U can't completely vacate something that physically and competitively took place! Had the game not been played or cancelled due to forfeiture or the like that's a different story! But Michigan and Louisville both participated and there was an outcome! Vacating is based on nothing but an opinion leading to a decision to take away a banner but it can't take away a game that was played

When Virginia was the #1 seed in the 2016 Midwest bracket (Chicago), Texas Tech was the #8 seed (though Tubby Smith was the coach then). Chris Beard (then at Arkansas-Little Rock) was the #12 seed.
Stylewise, Virginia has played a few teams who are somewhat similar to Texas Tech: Dayton, NC State, Oregon.
Other than Michigan and Kansas State from a pace perspective, Texas Tech had not faced a team like Virginia.

Virginia with the Ultimate Redemption Story
Culver was 5 for 22 from the field that night and Mooney was 4 for 9. Two starters, who played over 40 min each and had really rough nights. Those two have a solid night, didn't have to be great, and Tech wins easily. They had probably their worst games of the year at the same time and on that stage.

I was there and US Bank Stadium was electric!!! It was my first national championship game and I sat near the Texas Tech area, the fans were heart broken after the loss.

I watched this video many times. Now I realize that Virginia did not have weakness in their lineup. difficult to beat when there is no weak link in the lineup. 3 players ended up in NBA. The others are also very close to NBA in their future.

Good one. Guy and Jerome have combined for 36 NBA games and are both out of the league. Diakite and the sawed-off guy won't even come close.

With 12 seconds left , Culver collapsed on a layup from UVa leaving Hunter wide open for the 3 to tie the game , so yes Lavar Ball was accurate. Basically Tech would have had a 1 point lead with 10 seconds left and they would have had possession of the ball

Virginia did not beat Auburn the referees cheated Auburn out of a chance to play in the National Championship by not calling a double dribble against Virginia (cheaters)
They also didn't call the jersey grab on Jerome before it, when the refs knew Auburn was deliberately fouling.
Why is it that everybody is so transparent suffering from tunnel vision when it comes to that overdrawn sequence, that they forget Auburn had a four point lead with under 15 seconds left and inexplicably left Kyle Guy open on a three that cut it to one! If Auburn had done their job and contested that shot (holding their shouldn't have blown lead), that drawn out sequence isn't even a debate
