How to CHEER THE LOUDEST using SCIENCE!

  • Using nothing but an empty stadium, the scientific method and a lab coat, I investigate the most effective way to cheer for your team.
    Special thanks to:
USC for letting me use the Coliseum
Siemens for lending me the nice audio equipment
    Drone shots- Chad Schollmeyer www.highfidelitypictures.com / @imightbechad3701
My cheering fans- Whitney and Ethan Wright and Lincoln Hoppe (lincolnhoppe.com/)
Audio equipment support from j.ournal - you should go sub his video poem channel:

0:08- Hurricane (feat Andrew Applepie)- Joakim Karud / joakimkarud
    0:51- Dizzy- Joakim Karud krplus.net/ujoakimkarud...
    2:01- Berlin-
6:25- Special song written just fo my bad self- Lincoln Hoppe, lincolnhoppe.com/
    Summary:
As a cheering fan in a large stadium I was wondering what the most effective way to make noise was. For example, does clapping even matter? Can you hear a clap from down on the field? So I attended an actual football game to get some baseline loudness measurements and then went back to USC's Coliseum when it was empty and had 3 friends cycle through 11 different cheering styles in 12 different locations. Then I compared and ranked the best ways to cheer to make you a superfan for your next sporting event.

At thanksgiving, we had Coca-Cola glass bottles, and I told my friends I could break the bottom out with my hand. I couldn't get it, with warm water too, but got it first try with a rubber mallet! They were pretty impressed and confused as to why the bottom was the only part that broke and why it didn't shatter the whole thing and I showed them your vid and they were amazed! Stay awesome Mark! 👊🏻

    • @boekster7108
      @boekster7108 7 년 전 +5

Mark Rober thanks! I think the shape of the bottle matters! The Coca-Cola bottles have a slight hourglass shape at the bottom, so when the water goes back down to the bottom after the vacuum, it kind of dissipates (not sure if I'm making sense). In a bottle that's straight on both sides it would be easier because the radius is the same throughout. I think a bottle with a "\_/" shape, would be the easiest, because when the vacuum starts pulling the water back, the water gets a little extra acceleration due to the bottle slightly funneling/focusing the water to the bottom. Not sure if I am making any sense with the word choice, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say :P

I will just guess with basic knowledge. Some factors that can determine the speed of a sled is slope, wind, if the snow is hard/soft, if it is smooth or not, and the amount of weight placed on the sled (and where it is placed on it, as well). The materials that produce the least friction (smooth things like tape or plastic) will likely go the fastest.

It'd be interesting to test if the shape of a stadium for a certain number of fans can affect the number of wins the team has based on a certain shape stadium being their home stadium. Obviously, this has some other factors of how good the team is, emotions, exhaustion levels, etc... but if you can test how loud the sound is in certain stadium, it's possible there's a link / it plays a factor. Maybe do this for another video?

Thank you, *Mark Rober*! I'm always telling my dad that "you can't make the team hear you, and even if they could, the fans in the stadium would cancel out your voice! Plus, if the team understood you, there'd also be the cheers from the houses of the other team's fans!" Finally, I have proof it doesn't work! Thanks again!

Im educated a personal trainer and we did some "backflip" studies in school.
It's mostly technique, how quickly you can shift the mass of your body to the center, and out again.
the quicker you get at rolling into a ball mid-air, the less height you need to do the trick.
