Steve Winwood - vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, organ, piano, electric piano, percussion.
Jim Capaldi - drums, percussion, tambourine, vocals.
Chris Wood - saxophone, flute, organ, percussion.[12]
    Technical personnel
Andy Johns, Brian Humphries - engineer
    Mike Sida - album design
    Richard Polak - photography
In late 1968, Traffic disbanded, with guitarist Dave Mason leaving the group for the second time prior to the completion of the Traffic album. In 1969, Steve Winwood joined the supergroup Blind Faith, while drummer and lyricist Jim Capaldi and woodwinds player Chris Wood turned to session work. Wood and Winwood also joined Blind Faith's drummer Ginger Baker in his post-Blind Faith group Ginger Baker's Air Force for their first album, Ginger Baker's Air Force (1970).[5]
At the beginning of 1970, after the demise of Blind Faith, Winwood returned to the studio ostensibly to make his first solo album, originally to be titled Mad Shadows. He recorded two tracks with producer Guy Stevens, "Stranger to Himself" and "Every Mother's Son", but yearned for like-minded musicians to accompany. Inviting Wood and Capaldi to join him, Winwood's erstwhile solo album became the reunion of Traffic (minus Dave Mason), and a re-launch of the band's career.[6] Mad Shadows would go on to be the title of Mott the Hoople's second album, also produced by Guy Stevens, and the new Winwood/Traffic album took its title from one of its tracks and became John Barleycorn Must Die.
As did most of their albums, this one featured influences from jazz and blues, but the version of the traditional English folk tune that provided the album's title, "John Barleycorn", also showed the musicians attending to a modern interpretation of traditional folk music in the vein of contemporary British bands Pentangle and Fairport Convention.
The album was reissued for compact disc in the UK on 1 November 1999, with five bonus tracks, including three recorded in concert from the Fillmore East in New York City. In the US, the remastered reissue of 27 February 2001 included only the two studio bonus tracks.
Steve Winwood oversaw a deluxe edition that was released on 15 March 2011,[7] featuring the original studio album, digitally remastered on disc one, plus a second disc of bonus material, including more of the Fillmore East concert, with alternate mixes and versions of album tracks.

I love KRplus so much can't sleep I scroll through and find an old masterpiece like this is like being reborn ,the memories come flooding back into your brain and you appreciate the music of those days tenfold so lucky to have grown up in this era of unbelievable, magic, music probably never to again be duplicated in time.WOW!!!!!

I agree about the amazing availability of past gems on KRplus but can’t say I love KRplus anymore. I started watching KRplus back when there were zero adverts. Now it’s incessant adverts and often at really inconvenient times, halfway through a song that totally ruins the mood and the song. I have 2 strategies for dealing with this abomination. 1, mute the sound and close my eyes for the duration of the ad or 2, abandon the video because the song has already been ruined. I can’t stop KRplus playing ads but I sure as hell don’t have to watch them. 👍🏻😂

    • @thomassnider6691
      @thomassnider6691 년 전 +2

@@alexhamilton4084 Very good point. Sometimes no ads, other times the ads come at totally senseless times. Like an ad between 'Glad' and 'Freedom Rider' is wrong because Traffic meant for the two songs to go together. My worst experience was a version of Prokofiev's 7th Symphony and there was an ad 30 seconds from the climax. Maybe we need a music-lovers union to let all obtrusive advertisements shall not go unpunished.

    • @tundrawomansays694

It’s beyond ridiculous with the interruptions. There’s a really noxious ad in Joe Bonamassa’s “Just Got Paid” live at the Royal Albert and it pisses me off to no end. Yes, I also remember when there were no ads. ‘Nuff said……

When I listen to music I'm a time traveler. Been to every corner of the world my mind wants to take me. Been to strange places where tomorrow happened yesterday. Look back at tomorrow's shadow and it has traveled around the world. No time for hesitation for today just walked out the door. The music man is calling you to listen to inner voices where travel is cool and slow. No motion to fast for a solemn soul. Where the river and the music flow like spices in airy places to soothe the senses of a peaceful soul. Can you see the empty spaces where your heart has been tilled in the hallowed ground? To be renewed in Springs graces of a time we can not live now. But an endless rhythm will pollinate tomorrow's places!

Culmination of what Traffic started in 1967. B4 the band expanded and changed. This album will eternally stand alone on it's own and always hold up thru time.

Glad was the first song to be played at a party in college '77-'79. Almost got into a fight between Glad and some Springsteen song with a Jersey guy. Never did like him😂😎
