I told my mom this will last about a year and a half, she refused to accept that. She thinks it will last only 2 months tops.
No offense but your mum doesn't understand how viruses work. Nothing will change until we get a vaccine and get the antivaxers immunized along with the rest of the world.
@@cynthiaromero2658 The vaccine is not coming any time soon, so I wouldn't worry about anti-vaxers. The number of infected people will decrease to the point where the virus will be rare enough that outbreaks can be controlled. The problem with a pandemic is the burden on health services and lack of knowledge.

Ed Yongs article in The Atlantic was excellent. He covers all scenarios past, present, and future about Coronavirus if you get a chance you should read it.
I can listen to this journalist's accent all day. Unfortunately, the message is so grim. No one's going to travel to the States after this. Our government has shown its bias with its own population. Foreigners will only expect worse.
i didn't think of that, altho, many countries r facing the same n not doing much better but, yes, the expectation of the best n america is no longer viable.
Well if foreigners don't travel to the U.S., that means less people will be coming here spreading the virus. It's ok if they don't wanna come. We've got plenty of people here illegally.

Who's gonna fly anytime soon? airline travel will probably shrink by half, so any airline bailout is a waste of taxpayer money. They have to be allowed to shrink to the new normal.

I think he suppose to do that in April when things open up. I think this guy was talking to China or South Korea, there will be no downs here, those countries would have to close all interactions with the outside world for a year to be successful. Here we will see flu like progress with over a million cases by the end of April and maybe enough working people and retired people who can't change their habits getting sick by June and have herd immunity by summer. Probably at 10000 cases in my county (assuming most cases will not be counted) I will eliminate all grocery outings into public for a few months, there are fewer than 100 cases now which puts the odds over 100-1 of running into a case so I get groceries in a not so crowded store once a week and wear a mask, and that is my only outing into the public.
That's exactly what we don't want. Idiots congregating so that more idiots are infected, therefore increasing the chance that we will be infected.

As an aside, Yong's "I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life" is one of the most well written pop-science books I have ever read*.
If you're looking for something to do during this shutdown, it is highly recommended for the felicity of style alone.
*Even if ultimately I disagree with some of his conclusions about personal identity and the self, coming as I do from a background in philosophy on such matters.

Folks, I live in a country where we've had temps in the high 80's for three plus weeks. The virus is spreading, people are sickening and dying. Do not think for a minute that summer is going to save you. Please follow advice from medical and science professionals.
I live in the islands...ppl are hanging out going to church kids playing in the streets...most are saying it won't affect us... My daughter and I BEEN self quarantined for the past month...everybody thinks we crazy when we are out in masks and gloves...meanwhile covid cases are rising

Close our borders. No flights anywhere and each state close their borders except for truck drivers for at least a year. After it's under control, keep our borders closed to any other country. It's sad but it's necessary.

This is what happens when you pit profit margins vs a virus vs people. The virus - 70,000 with 1046 dead and the people - 620 recovered. This is the war RepubliKKKlans want to fight. Let the virus run its course, cull the herd of the weak and old. Except this bug could be mutating on the fly. Italy's death rate is at 10% 3x what China's was.
Trump's not even a business man. He could have retooled USA companies that are listed on wall street and made good on those stocks due to high demands in protective gear. He could not even jump on that opportunity. Guess he simply wants a USA population reduction.

I try my best to see "both sides of the coin." In this situation there is no easy answer. If we do not go back to work, we are facing an unprecedented financial collapse, the likes that have never been seen since the beginning of fiscal policy. However, if we "shelter in place" we run the risk of annihilating the economy which will lead to untold death and suffering in the future. If I had to choose one or the other I regretfully choose to " deal with the sickness as it comes and go on with living." This is like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either way it is awful and I hate it for each and every one of us. This is Biblical (unfortunately)

Epidemic coming to an end is not a big problem. How many people will die is the situation we have to control.
We lost that window of control when we didn't do trace testing back in January. We knew there were carriers here the same time S Korea did - but we did (pretty much) nothing - S. Korea did everything humanly possible(!) - and then some. Look at both of us now.
