The Wii U is really good but lacks third party and a good start, let's hope the Switch will make up for that!

Hey man look, I'm a guy that the only Mario he played is Mario Bros ds... Yeah I played that over 70 times and I'm tired of it. For me, this game is super cool cuz I can finally do that spin jump thing and get more power ups and stuff. I don't think it needs to be updated. It's perfect!

I can say from playing it that it that not being able to upload your levels online really doesn't detract from the experience, but each is to their own I guess.

This is a damn shame especially because the 3DS is capable of ALL OF THOSE FEATURES. Seriously, either they didn't want to put in the work or intentionally left it out so the WiiU version looks better. I hope I'm wrong and hope they drop more online features in a future update but we'll see.

My main fear is the possibility of frames dropping if too much is going on. Don't get me wrong, I know that the 3DS is a pretty capable system, but it can have it's moments.
I think that's an issue you're going to have no matter what. You can't have a system with infinite resources, so at some point there's gonna be a limit somewhere.

Here's why Mario Maker 3ds doesn't have online play.
Whenever a course gets uploaded, it goes into a server at Nintendo. Last I checked there 2 million Mario Maker courses uploaded on the Wii U version (correct me if I'm wrong), but the point is, those are a lot of courses. But let's look at console sales. The Wii U has only sold 13 million units since 2012.
And the 3ds since 2011: 59.79 million. So obviously the 3ds version would outsell the Wii U version.
Can you imagine how many more servers would be required to hold the courses coming from the handheld? It would be very costly. And right now Big N's focus on budget is on their upcoming Switch. So it's not hardware limitations or anything else (come on, this handheld had Smash 4 with online play) it's just Nintendo's focus is somewhere else, more important.

And lets take into account the development costs for the game. Since its a simple port, it didnt cost as much as making a new game. So buying new servers would decrease the profits earned, which is a blow out when dev costs are low.

Ashaboi or maybe it was basically deconfirmed with nsmbu deluxe. I mean, Nintendo wanted to put a side scroller on the switch, and since nsmbu is being ported over, I don’t think they have plans to make Mario maker for the switch.

The game is not empty or lame. It's just incomplete. The real missing feature is, well, the ability to UPLOAD courses. Adding the upload feature in any upcoming update (no matter how "basic") and everybody will calm down.
And when it finally happens, I don't want people to complain "we can't upload courses without a Wi-Fi connection" It's obvious that we wouldn't...

Jellomations 113 You won't be able to share your levels online, only by Streetpass with random people. But you can still play the 100 Mario Challenge and Recommended courses. Plus, you can play 100 courses made by Nintendo offline. So it's not all bad, but I recommend that you buy the Wii U version or wait for the Switch port to come out eventually.
That One Awkward Guy Yah, but that's the thing, I only have a 3ds. I'm still going to get it because Mario was my (smaller) childhood, and just playing the 100 Mario challenge would satisfy me. I just set high expectations, looking at the wii U version ;_;

I have both a normal 3DS and a 2DS, so this game is perfect for my game collection, since it's coming next friday
despite the lack of share features, it's still cool that this exists. i had a lot of fun with it one time when i was recovering, great memories.

I remember near Christmas of 2018 i saw an Smm video in my recommendations. I watched it and it made me want to get smm. I got smm for the 3ds because it was portable even though i already have my wii U. I got it and i can’t: Share my levels, Use the mystery mushroom, 30th Anniversary mushroom, Use amiibo, and look up course ids. Now I play Smm2 for my Nintendo Switch. Thanks Nintendo for making me waste my money.

I wish they added exclusive Mario themes/types of gameplay for the 3DS version to make up for the lack of online sharing. Like maybe a 3D Land theme which would change up the way to make a level, or maybe even Mario Kart. It would really be different, and a fun addition to the idea of Super Mario Maker.

setk Nintendos money is being pumped into the switch so they can't afford more servers, (an extra 12million players would need to be accounted for). They wanted to pump it out before Christmas so they will likely add and update later in the games lifespan.
setk think about the server load there were 6 million Wii U sold compared to 50+ million 3DS. I think that after the switch comes out and we see how much this game sells they will probably update the game. I would rather be able to search and play any level than upload my own

Ya know what sucks? I can make good Mario maker levels. Ones I put thought into, and look absolutely amazing and are hard but won't make you rage. BUT I CANT SHARE THEM!!! And that just stinks because I bet that people who dont have a Wii U (and that's a lot) are gonna buy this for their 3ds, only to be wildly disappointed. And the even removed the mystery mushroom costume!

I don't think it's too much to ask for a port of a simplistic game like Mario Maker to have all the same functionality of the original, really. But it may all get added eventually, they probably just rushed it for the holiday season.

I have experienced some lag on Mario Kart 7 during online races and everybody is at the same spot, and everybody is using items at the sametime. It does not surprise me to have lag on Mario Maker either on 3DS. It will happen. At least, I can make levels on-the-go, and then copy it over to Wii U to upload.
