After playing both Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, I gotta say these "HD-2D" games started to grow on me. Of course I will be looking forward to this game along with Dragon Quest III remake... When a release date is announced for it of course.

I get more Battle 1 from Mystic Quest, especially the song intro.

I sadly dislike that version of Knock You Down in the remake, which was my favorite track in the OG, all because a saxophone can't replicate an e-guitar which it sounded like back then. The saxophone really isn't a powerful instrument for that battle theme at all.

Short stories, and a bit of time travel

First it's short stories, then time travel brings them together for one big crossover.

Since the original game came out in 1994 I presume that is when this chapter takes place, so probably no cellphones.

@@marche800 so this means that in reality, this took place on the 90's. and the near future probably too place like 2010's or 20's? (since, those/our times would be like "near" for them in the past, right?)

@@arturoayala1004 we don't have mecha yet so I think the near future is still far off. Aside from a few hints it's never made clear exactly what year the chapters take place.

Considering "present day" was set in the early 90's since that's when this game was originally released, street fighting and delinquents were a real popular genre/subject in Japanese media at the time.

@@dylans.1741 What makes this even funnier is that the original composer for Live A Live was Yoko Shimomura, who, among other things, also composed the soundtrack for Street Fighter 2. And she did this game _After_ SF2.

I don't know if the remake will change it, but in the original it was turn based strategy.
You have a grid-based arena and area of effect attacks.

They do all use the same system. IIRC, it's got Active Time Battle elements, rather than full-on Turn-Based, for better or worse.
It's more the context that changes.

Each chapter has its own gameplay style. Masaru's chapter is basically Street Fighter: the RPG. Rather than gain Exp, by getting hit by special moves, Masaru learns those moves like a Blue Mage. Each opponent has its own fighting style that they specialize in, and by learning all sorts of moves from all six fighters, Masaru becomes an insanely versatile, having a move for virtually any situation.

Each chapter has the same combat but it gets used differently in each of them. This chapter's story is told almost exclusively through the battle system, meanwhile chapters such as the Wild West and Distant Future almost completely lack any fights save for the boss at the end of them.

This game was slated for July before Xenoblade was moved up

Not at all. This storyline is sorta Street Fighter esque where the MC Masaru fights 7 opponents, while another story is about training ur students to overcome you and another one is basically a space horror adventure, with adventure being a bit overtuned for a word but u get the jist of it. Also the stories variant in length depending on the character. Masaru here has the shortest one while oboro and Pogo (at least in the OG) have the longest ones.

This game is the predecessor of Chrono Trigger believe it or not. It was made by the same person.

Without this game, Chrono trigger wouldn’t exist

Shares like 90% of the same staff. It was something they made for fun while developing Trigger so similarities are unavoidable.

All I will say is play the game, and it will make sense.

IIRC the Middle Ages arc in the original game is unlocked after beating all of the other 7 storylines, and I assume they added magic to make it feel more relatable to that time period as magic is always told to be part of that time period the way revolvers were a big part of the Wild West and Kung Fu was a big part of Imperial China. The focus is typically on what the major weapon of choice is for each period (with some leeway for imagination of course especially in the case of near and distant future).

This chapter is supposed to be in Street Fighter style and in that game magic does exist, so it seems each period magic plays a different role

Basically, think of each time period as being a different genre of story, such as the Old West being a Western, Ancient China being a Kung Fu movie, the "Present Day" being more of a modern "Rocky"-esque film, etc.
The reason why magic isn't used in those time periods is because it doesn't fit the genre of storytelling that they're going for.

There's a bit of magic here and there in other chapters too, just not as explicit as Middle Ages.

Paying for time exclusive is not the same as financing game's development.
no problem with the desire for a chrono trigger remake. People just need to be asking the owners of the IP, who make the decisions on if a remake is going to happen or not.
Stop asking & expecting Nintendo to pay for a remake of a game or series that is not owned by Nintendo. Its stupid.

Eu recomendo criar uma conta nintendo americana para esse tipo de jogo, o único "problema" é quando pedem o cep no pagamento mas é só colocar um número aleatório e eles aceitam.

It’s crazy how this game was essentially a footnote in Squaresoft’s history when it was such an influential project for those involved.

@@adam145 also the game is quite short still, I think the remake will cut down some grinding issues later down and it would be done in roughly 13-15 hours by now instead of around 20.
