- Not sure who the Spalding Sandwich is named after but when it comes down to it, it doesn’t really matter. That’s because this sandwich from 1936’s 1,001 Sandwiches is a moderately glorified cream cheese and green olive sandwich. And I do mean moderately. Fortunately, I have a plus up in my back pocket that has been waiting for this moment…no, not literally in my back pocket. That’d be wierd, man.

It's weird how often these recipes will do things like have you spread butter on both slices then cream cheese on top, instead of just spreading butter on one slice and cream cheese on the other.

One time my grandmother made celery sticks filled with cream cheese than topped them with canned black olives! The briney and the creamy worked very well.

olive-related tangent, but we recently got a jar of garlic-stuffed green olives. So good.
Those are good. They also have blue cheese stuffed olives. If you're into that funk.
I like the jalapeno stuffed queen olives. So good
I found a stupidly-expensive smoked bleu cheese and jammed it into oversized green olives... amazing in a martini, and way better than the pre-stuffed ones in jars. A little messy and a little extra work, but well worth it.

Since I love cream cheese and olive stuffed celery, this one is a winner. Nice plus up too. For a party mix the cream cheese and blue cheese together. On fancy round slices of bread with olive on top.

Not a green olive person, but I would like to suggest a sandwich. Very depression era New England. Bread-and-butter pickle sandwich. Soft white bread, butter and bread-and-butter pickles. Heaven.

An Aldi around here carries blue cheese stuffed green olives. I also like them in a martinus but find the blue cheese gets a bit too briney. Now, a dirty vodka martinus made with Kalamata olives is a real treat. {Do you mean Martini? No, if I want two I will ask for two}

I think they make olives already stuffed with bleu cheese. Might buy you some time back. 😀
They do but I always find those kinda meh. Plus, if I stuff 'em, I get to choose what kind of blue cheese!
